Probably because in-game strategy is about the hardest thing to write about. Things like formation and turn-planning are very technical and dry, and in actual play things like psychology and planning around possible plays make it hugely complicated, probably more so than M:tG equivalents...
I do what I can to try approaching deckbuilding from a slightly different angle each time with the Clinics, but when it comes to how to play the decks, there isn't a huge amount I can do other than give an idea of roughly what you want to be trying to do on each turn and pointing out serious problem cards to watch out for. Otherwise Deck Clinic would be a 5-parter, not a 2-parter.
Unfortunately, too many authors are trying to find their own niche, and very few people attempt the "actual ingame strategy" niche.
Unfortunate for who? I personally don't like those very much. (Obviously, from my skill level.) I think we should consider as wide a range of interests and motivations as possible. I know for a fact that Metagame follows traffic trends when they choose "niches".
The vocal critics tend to be part of a very narrow special interest group, and the fan mail pours in from people that have never, and will never, post on this website. It always gives me the chagrins when the same people scream the same things all over again on the message boards and still think that their perspective is the only one in the world.
as a semi-regular writer for our Asian VS site (which is blatantly displayed in my signature), i agree that coming up with new and interesting topics every week is pretty hard, especially for those of us who write just for the love of the game (no compensation of any kind).
as to the thread poll, i'd have voted for Limited Play, but since it only displays Sealed Play, i checked Reports and Observations, since i really enjoy Alex Brown's breakdown of new sets for drafting. even though i disagree with some of his assessments from time to time, they are always well-written.
I'm sure part of the problem is alot of these guys have to come up with something every week. Prosak's articles are better than most, but he also writes when he wants to from what I can tell. Its alot easier when you have something on your mind. Stu, Kamiza, and the metagame guys have to come up with something every week, and to be honest if you have any kind of life, its hard to think about Vs. so much that you have an original article worthy subject evry week.
The irony of an incredibly poor writer complaining about writing made me laugh until I cried, and then I laughed some more.
The tears were shed because I have noticed that while the vast majority of posters here use proper grammer and punctuation, some appear to have missed a number of elementary school years. How sad.
On the topic of articles, everyone's different tastes in reading are expressed in the articles they choose to read or not to read. I am exceptionally grateful to all those who take the time to express their ideas about a game we all enjoy.
Much like political articles, I won't always agree but I feel that my knowledge of others has been expanded by the experience.
So, more articles please! Whatever your topic we could all use the added exchange of knowledge. Thanks for writing.
