after a few PMs back and forth between FatalSync and I about this issue, i found it funny(but not really) that this was his response to me pointing out that the filters are STILL allowing the word "nigga" to pass thru onto the message boards....
"Just because a complaint is lodged does not mean it is acted upon.
There are always going to be some words that society sees as worse than others. Hence, "n*gger" is filtered.
Given the pervasiveness of "N*gga" in popular culture, I don't seem them being on the same level of offensiveness, even though as one of the whitest guys on the planet I wouldn't personally presume to use either.
Therefore, I'm not going to change the filters at this time."
so i guess this means i'm gonna hafta get another ban and some more warning points when i start a new thread.....LOL!
The book Static was an amazing concept and story, very akin to early Spiderman, with a modern perspective. The cartoon was definitely a watered down version, but still incredible by comparison to much of the other garbage on TV in the last few years.
The cartoon couldn't very well deal with the impact and implications of a young kid bullied in school and looked over by a local drug dealer, who later get's shot, or his best friend that comes out of the closet, or the interacial relationship developing between Virgil and Frieda, or even the full impact of being raised by a single Black mom in the ghetto.
Offering this would have been a bit much, but offering anything at all to the mass public featuring a positive influence, younger hero of non-white descent was a great big leap in the right direction.
I totally support Static and the Static Shock cartoon, and would welcome the debut of Static in VS in the immediate future.
< soap box discarded in the proper waste recepticle>
somebody said that Static should just been called Electro-Nigga cuz the comic book line was pandering to "ghetto urban youths," who's money happens to be the same colour as everyone else's(even if it is drug money...LMAO!)
