So do they actually have the product all packed up and everything already? Man would I like to find that warehouse!
I highly doubt it. Usually companies make mock-ups like that with the chosen art to promote the product but that doesn't mean at all that World's Finest is ready. I wish it were, though . . .
It's cool that images for the packaging are already available. However, I don't like the design: it's generic and simple. Granted, the theme or central focus for the set is called "World's Finest" and, inherently, the idea would be to catapult the Superman and Batman images. Nonetheless, considering that VS System cards are, for the most part, retailed in comic book stores, the cards don't exude anything unique when congested with a paraphernalia of other collectables that are decorated with these two popular culture icons. I think the packaging demands to be more dynamic if new players are expected to gather interest in the game; rather than the fan base VS has already, aware that they can find the product in their local store.
Personally, I think that even though you want to catch people's eyes, a simpler design just looks better all around. I love the artwork and the design. If you try to get too flashy with the packaging design, it just starts to look cheesy and might turn possible new players off.
I agree with 4AD. The box art is very static and dark. In addition DC is really getting some mileage out of Jim Lee Superman/Batman so those images do not stand out in a crowd.
I would rather have seen something splashy by Carlos Pacheco or Ed McGuinness.
