Not to hijack Hatter, but I am really interested in where people play (the FLGS) as well as the approximate number of players for different events (i.e. Hobby League play, drafts, Sneaks, PCQs). Not that you would have to have quantitative info on all these just educated guesses.
Yes, please everyone tell us your city and if you want the store you play at with numbers. I'm mostly curious how big the weekly tournies are -- hobby league type level. PCQ & sneak info is fine too.
Man, it'd be great to have a local place to do an 8 man draft once per week.
and i really only gold fish, i do go to events and i do pretty well considering its not often and yet i can stil place :) . all events are at least 2 and a half hours from me tho...
Northend has 12 or 13 players with most weeks being around 7-10 players
Southend has has a similar number but i havent been in several months, so i dont know what the weekly turnout is, and only 2 people really cross-over. (well 3 if i had the money, its a long drive)
Toronto's dropped from having turnouts of 12-16 to turnouts of 6-8 on a good day. We mostly draft on Saturdays for Hobby League, and sometimes on Wednesdays for casual drafting, and in between drafts we play competitive-casual, mostly Silver.
I play at Game Nightz in Phoenix, and we get 15+ every Monday night. It's usually Golden, but we've tried out other formats. Unfortunately the time constraints (doesn't start till 6, the mall it's in closes at 9) don't leave much time for extracurricular gaming. In addition to (or in place of when UDE sucks) EA gallery packs are "drafted" as prizes. Each person puts in $1 and Gallery packs are drafted in order of finish at the end of the tournament. It's pretty awesome.
wow, reading these makes me sad, I have one person that I test against every week... it sucks... No offence to Brian, but it would be nice to play in a group again... Now I just look forward to PCQ's (This saturday 12/16/06) and Sneaks. (because they generate about 20-30 people)
We used to have a turn out of 6-8 for Hobby League... but now its just brian and me.
If you are in the Salt Lake City area, and you play VS. Please see us at The Black Rose on Thrusday Nights around 6:00 PM we usually play till 9 to 10 PM depending on the owner.

Agreed! Game Nightz is pretty rad.
On that note, I'm sad that I missed this last Monday, I caught some horrible mutant virus.
We need to DEMAND that everyone build a "Big Deck" and rotate that format in every now and then.
In Atlanta, we are doing Draft Club at B&R Games now. We generally get between 6-8 players (aside from the occasional holiday-induced population drop off). Not so much with the constructed games unless folks stop by early for a game or two. We've been up in the air about getting Hobby League cards recently due to some wonkiness with shipping, but hopefully things will get back on track soon.
I wouldn't call it the "best", but Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky's is pretty good. There's a place that plays regularly every Wednesday (drafts and newest age), a Hobby League on Saturday and I believe Thursday, and a casual play day on Tuesday, all at different stores. I don't go to all of them but this is what I know of.
I know Comic Book World in Florence Kentucky has open Vs on Saturday from 4 to 7 (or 8) on Jan 27th of 2007 there is a draft tourny (Something about 12 people playing means the winner gets a box) and Hobby League is starting there next month.
Man, that sounds pretty good. To my knowledge, all I have is Hobby League once a week. It would be great if there was a place in Austin that drafted once a week. I haven't been to my local Hobby League in the past couple of months because the day conflicts with other things I want to do each Thursday evening: Happy Hour.
Ignore this man, our Hobby League is awesome. We do a different age every week and it's a blast. Sure it'd be nice if we could draft every week, but how can we, with deserters like him...:p
in iowa there are 3 hobby leagues i know of that exist, mayhem in ames and desmoines both have league, and Pandoras box up in waterloo has one as well. Though turnout on the other hand is not the best, we do have drafts and mostly play silver, but we havent had much for new blood in along time.
