Since I have to drive 2 and a half hours (and over a mountain pass or two) the single format PCQ's have = not worth the trip. THe PCQ's have been predominantly sealed and why would I want to waste that much $$$ in gas to get randomly lucksacked with a bad batch of 5 packs. At least with split format I could bring the kids along (who enjoyed sealed) and I could play in constructed.
Amateur prizes were a stroke of genius. However, I went to a PCQ last weekend and it didn't end until 10:30-10:45pm. It was a sealed event with about 23 people. I drove about 2 and a half hours to get there, so I didn't make it home until after 1am. Maybe we started late or maybe everyone there was slow, but I never went to a dual format PCQ that saw me get home after 1am.
Was that the Sunday PCQ in Huntsville? Some of the guys from Atlanta were thinking about going, but starting a PCQ on Sunday at 2PM (I think it was 2) was just too late, considering the travel time involved.
Honestly - that pretty much shuts out anyone who wants to travel but also works.
Saturdays are better, and if you have to have it on Sunday... try starting at 10 or 11. Of course, here in the South... well, I won't even get into the church discussion.
