Man, that's brutal to get the whole tournament format changed up on you. Wish I'd been there, sounded like a good day all the same. Awesome report and write up on everything.
How many players were there exactly? I know with 2/3's format you have less rounds, but 5 still seems like low turnout. Better than some of our 7-10 player sealed PCQs I hope. LOL
Better luck next time out, Paul. Youi know, unless I'm there. ;)
Future foes ftw... fated up.. Hmm.. Interesting call.. Paul teen titans are just base period yes they've done well yes they are a good team.. Yes they got new shiny toys but they are still the titans of cheese. Curtis played turbo thing huh.. That's awesome.. <--- gotta love the"..." ill add more when I'm not completely delirious from being up at 2:30 am when I gotta work in 3 hours. Oh yea no hobby league ever? U should stop by
Nothing wrong with Filipinos, I love them. They're the greatest people in the world. Short, hard working, and love to gamble. My kind of people.
What a wonderfully written article! Props definately goes out to you for taking the time and effort into writing it. Definately had fun reading it at 3:00 in da morning when I should've been sleeping.
Sounds like the Bay area has a good meta, unlike up here. There just aren't enough players to support the game right now.
This belongs on Metagame.com Premium. 2 out of 3 parts and it's already got information and ideas that haven't appeared anywhere else; anecdotes that make the story personal for the reader; and attention to detail in all areas that show not only do you have something interesting to say and an interesting manner of saying it, but you've done your homework too.
Don't know what the highest compliment I can give you is, but here goes: I wish I had written this.
You actually inspired me to write 27 pages with this little thing:

Anyhow, thanks for all the kind words here. Although I think a lot of this praise stems more from the fact that there's a dreath of writing for a game as opposed to this report actually being good. I really hope more people start writing.
The PCQ had I think 31 people - there were a lot of people. I don't know what T8'd but there were a lot of engine decks in the top tables. Deck breakdown as far as I remember:
The toolbox decks were the most interesting. I am increasingly getting the feeling that your decks in Golden Age really want to be some type of engine driven deck. It's kind of like type one in Magic. For example, Madness, Dragon and Ichorid are all different type of decks with different goals, but at their hearts they're all driven by the same card - Bazaar of Baghdad. This is similar to how ST4K and Teletubbies are all Workshop decks, while ControlSlaver and Meandecks gifts are all Mana Drain decks.I think the same thing may happen in VS where you have a variety of engines, and each deck will choose an engine and try to implement its benefits differently. If I were to play in another GA PCQ, I would definitely play some type of engine deck.
Finally, here's my question to everyone: When you read a report, what do you enjoy reading the most: The explanation of the deck, the personal banterings, or the actual gameplay report itself?
Background of the deck is nice but that's for appetisers. The real meat is knowing what happened and making the reader feel for the writer.
Jacob's tournament reports are fantastic for being accurate and with great analysis of the key moments in the game and it's definately got a style to it.
Tommy's tournament report after a PC is something I always look forward to. I think it's definately his flair that gets him his kudos points. Being a journalism student certain helps.
Hey Paul, Simon (Yes the judge one) here. If you had gotten in touch with me beforehand, I would have had all the stuff you needed, minus 3 "Mobilize". =) And yes, I am the one hoarding the Aqua Womans which is why no one else had them. =P Damn she's hawt.
Anyway, good job on the 3-2. If you do want to practice, you could always head over to Cupertino on Wednesday nights to Superstars as the "Eugenio Gang" is there most of the time. =)
Catch me on AIM next time if you need stuff.
P.S. Don't hate on the Yu-Gi-Oh! man. I'll have to bring out my "Purpled Eyes Megazord Turtle" on you next time.
P.P.S. So YOU'RE the one that called ProStars that night. Eugenio was the one that answered the phone. =P He was complaining to me afterwards about some random guy calling and asking for Khoi. =P
