Honestly, I don't know what to think of this article.
It could be so damn good that it pushes me to get that much better myself...
... but what if it was just a parody of my style to begin with? ...
... or would that even matter since I love my style and this article entertained me more than any other Metagame article in history...
... or should I just quote my favorite parts and stop talking to myself...
That’s what I believe Hellboy is at its core—a manifestation of the virtue of rebellion. Hellboy’s whole life is written in the metaphoric stone. He is the “Beast of the Apocalypse.” His denial of purpose and his pretense at being a man, a human, can easily be viewed as insane. The guy’s a big red demon with two horns and a giant stone hand! How on Earth could he ever hope to be accepted as a man? The same way any of us hope to become more than we were born to be—determination fueled by sheer will.
In the comics, Hellboy would have none of it. He denied Rasputin, and in so doing, he denied his destiny. He refused to be anyone’s pawn, be they demon or angel. He resolved to be his own man and forge his own destiny, something only the most heroic among us will ever successfully achieve.
Let me harness the power you hold unknowing in your right hand...
... my ego is enormous.
That kind of prose is what I live for. I don't care who wrote it, I will cherish it forever.
while i won't comment/feel comfortable commenting on the perceived "BS" nature of the article (honestly: completely offended. ), i will say the card is actually quite solid.
c'mon! it's a finishing move that gains you endurance! nice.
I would like to apologize for what I said abt the "BS". U did do a great job of taking not much and turning it into an article. Much better than anything I could do.
I think you're way underestimating the life gain prof. Even 3 or 4 endurance can make a big difference (more if you KO bigger drops), and offsets using Rasputin's power. I think it's a great card.
Maybe I am underestimating this card. However, I thought Thule Society was going to be a KO theme. KO effects that DON'T require exhausting are a lot better than those that do, and I expect another plot twist that KOs character but doesn't require an exhaust. Now, if I'm wrong on that, then this card is awesome.
But if we have something that's even along the lines of Sadistic Choice or this card, I'd choose Sadistic Choice because it doesn't require an exhaust. Then again, maybe there will need to be more than 4 copies of KO effects, so this card will see Thule play anyway.
And am I the only person that thinks its a skill to actually write a lengthy article when the subject isn't that impressive? He talked at good lengths not directly related to the effects of this card, and it was very, very good. I don't think claiming he wrote more about the IDEAL than about the CARD is a bad thing at all.
I still don't like the card, but his article makes me like its name.
What is so freaking bad about the card? Ignoring team/trait/whatever-stamping, it's the best Finishing Move printed so far. You gain life of the character that's KO'd instead of the character you exhausted (re: Drain Essence) which is MUCH better.
Maybe it's not the kind of stuff that should be hyping the new set, but the card is not bad at all.

Agree. Plus, lets not forget what the real aim of this product is. It is basically a ready made precon set ala the theme decks other games have. I imaging there will be some decent cards in the set, but very little in the way of bombs.
I think this could be a key tool for reviving interest in the game. I think they should drop the horribly boring Starter Decks and goto releasing one of these sets once or twice a year.
I do wish it wasnt Hellboy though. Not a fan. Still buying tho.
I hear that. I didn't know much before the articles, but I'm quickly becoming a fan. (an easy task admittedly). But even if I weren't, the rulesbook, counters etc, as well as some of the cards so far, would ensure that my wallet cracked open a few times.
