i cant wait for the OP update and the potential sigh of relif or the backlash of WTF. So what do you think, lots of build up for nothing or is this the answer to what we have been waiting for?
The problem some of us have is that with UDE, "sometimes" is tending more towards "routinely" of late.
Like routinely putting up news announcments [even if OP is the one thing that didn't get put up yet] as opposed to last year when they NEVER had ANY news that was EVER late.
I mean, until recently, UDE was the fastest company EVER ...

I know I may not have the whole story here, but what constitutes "routinely"? I count three issues.
1) Delayed OP schedule.
2) Poor Hobby League support.
3) Poor website support.
Number 1 is being addressed today, and can probably be attributed to a number of factors: management issues, venue cancellations, public outcry for changes, etc. Numbers 2 and 3 were more than likely a management issue. All three are either being addressed, or being resolved currently, with pretty solid time-frames, and all since Scott Gaeta announced his new position as Product Manager for Vs. System. And don't forget, he's also keeping us up-to-date as much as possible with everything.
The only thing left that I hope from this company, is possibly better marketing and advertising. The more people I have to play Vs. with, the better.
Lets not get off track, this thread is about the ramifications of a potential lack of an OP announcement today, either through an expressed delay, or complete absence of communication. Please contain your discussion to how this scenario would effect your commitment to game of VS.
A lot of people are just waiting for the BIG Announcement like UDE is just going to cancell VS. all together. Obviously enough people care about the game that we're posting thread after thread about it. The game will not die unless UDE is losing money because of it. The PCQ turnouts show that they kinda are. Also alot of people I know don't purchase boxes like they used to. So yeah...the company is probally taking hit by hit with this and the Pro-Circuit. In order to keep the game alive the players need to spend money on it.
Think about it like this:
You own a lemonade stand. (1st thing that came to me.) And you sit there from 6 in the morning doing all this labor making the lemonade, and spending all that money buying lemons, sugar etc. You sit out there all day (or maybe hire a bunch of employees to do this for you, such as UDE does.) and you are losing money off it. Will you still remain is business? I thought so.
So everybody in order for the VS. System to continue, money needs to be made. Start attending PCQ's, start purchasing boxes again, and keep loving the game. If you do this there will be more OP (50k's and PCQ's), and the game will never die.
Much to the chagrin of Stu (and those who subscribe to his philosophy), I will be extremely disappointed if there is no OP announcement today, to the point where I would consider putting Vs. on the backburner for awhile. As good as the game is, the competitive scene is what keeps the fire in me burning, and without it, I'm sure it will be infinitely more difficult to get a game together.
With that said, I have no doubt that the update will go up today. Upper Deck has stumbled a couple times, but they've delivered when it matters.
Besides, all "supplementary articles" in addition to the daily ones (Scott Gaeta updates, Dave Humphery ban announcements, etc.) are always posted more toward the end of the day.
The game will not die unless UDE is losing money because of it. The PCQ turnouts show that they kinda are.
I'm not sure I agree with this... In the first place, I think attendance numbers for PCQs for the past 3 or 4 months are skewed, because we had:
- A constructed format that many people don't care for (Golden - esp. with Frankie and Dr. Light B0rkeness)
- A limited format that many people despise (Legions - overly maligned, IMO)
- The holiday season, when gaming in general takes a nose-dive due to family obligations, lack of big cons, shrinking bank accounts for gifts, etc. etc.
IF UDE decided to can the PCQs based on the past 3-4 months of PCQ attendance, I think they're doing themselves and their players a grave disservice. Once MTU, Hellboy, and Silver Age hit? We're gonna have an attendance Rennaissance, baby! Yeah!
i've been playing since the begining and since we didn't have any OP at all for a long time and it's still sparse i doubt anything they say will change the fact that i play the game.. (to tell you the truth the "ages" actually hinder me more from playing in OP then anything.. I mean its a pain in the ### trying to find out which format the next tourney is going to be and what sets and then playtest for it.) The more threads we see like this one probably hurt the game more then anything.. i mean if you were thinking about picking up a game and you checked out the website for it and saw all these people talking about the sky falling would u invest any money in it? TO ALL PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT GETTING INTO THIS GAME IT IS AWESOME I'VE PLAYED MAGIC AND COUNTLESS OTHERS AND THIS ONE HAS THE MOST FLAVOR AND PLAYABILITY OUT OF THEM ALL!!!!

QARFMFT. (quoted and repped for mother-f#cking truth)
There's another thread on the subject of UDE not yet posting the promised OP update? Where? Or do you just mean another thread that questions UDE's management of the game? I know you want to lump it all together into the "Players Whining About UDE Again" bucket for convenience's sake, but there are many individual problems that UDE has created for themselves, and each one is worthy of separate discussion.
You know, on the way to a PCQ on Saturday morning, a friend and I were talking about this, and I said that if UDE had been purposely trying to sabotage the game, they would do many of the same things that they have been doing in recent months: delaying prize payments without explanation, failing to announce the OP schedule for the year in a timely manner, cancelling events like scholarship tournaments with no explanation, promising to announce an OP schedule by a certain date and then announcing a further delay on that date. They have systematically botched just about everything that could possibly be botched in recent months, and the problems are reaching critical mass.

I agree with you about the game. I love the game too. But could you in good conscience recommend to a friend that they start playing the game right now? I couldn't. I would teach them the game and loan them cards if they were determined, but I would recommend against buying any cards of their own at this time. If Vs. System were a stock, it would at best rate a precarious HOLD right now, not a BUY.

With that being said, I'm from Cincinnati, the turnouts for ALL events have always been impresive. We get people from all over coming to play. I recently went to Indy to compete in a PCQ. The turnout was not so hot and on top of that the judge for the event was 3 hours late. Maybe the wrong people are in charge for these things...I don't know, all this thread really is is speculation.

They have? We had a PCQ last month, and prizes were awarded. Marvel Team-Up previewed last weekend, and I have almost two boxes of cards and a playmat to show for it. Communication has improved. Hobby League has improved. Future tournaments have been confirmed, and dates are soon to follow. City Championships have been announced and start next month with one of the coolest prizes ever. The next three sets have been announced, with TBZ teasing us with sets beyond even that. A new website is being launched in the next week or two to make information more accessible to existing players and new players alike.
Really sounds like they're sabotaging the game to me. Do we have a smiley that's rolling it's eyes?
So no, I won't be quitting the game if we don't get an OP schedule today. I'm going to keep playing because it's fun, and because there's so much in the future of this game that getting out now would mean missing out on even more fun than I've already had.
well maybe if i were in this game as an investment only then yea i wouldn't buy anymore but this is a hobby for me more then an investment (not saying buying the game as an investment is wrong) All games go through slumps and slow points (fallen empires? i can name quite a few more sets) i love the game for the game and the collectible value part is just a bonus for me.
I agree with you about the game. I love the game too. But could you in good conscience recommend to a friend that they start playing the game right now?
I sure could. Hellboy, MTU, World's Finest, and two Legends sets. PC Indy and the City Championships to win your face on a card.
Those are real things, remember. Not paranoid delusions and insufferable impatience.
(Flame all you want, I'm used to it. You can spit fire and so can I.)
