You still have to pay the 4 resource points to bring him in. So no you couldnt recruit a 4 and the 5 on 5.
If Kang would come into play during your recruit step, instead, remove him from the game. At the start of the recovery phase this turn, put Kang into your front row.
To come into play you have to recruit him onto the board and wait for it to pass on an empty chain. THen he's in play. Then he does removed. You can't just keep recruiting him over and over...unless itslike turn 12 and honestly..that wouldnt be cool at all.
That's weird, I figured the keyword there is "instead". Like, "instead" of recruiting and paying 4 resources, he gets removed. That's how the judge ruled it, anyway. Anyone else agree? I'd like it cleared up either way, right or wrong, so I don't get caught at a tourney doing something not allowed.

It says 'instead of coming into play', not 'instead of recruiting Kang'.
It replaces the character coming into play, which is not the same as replacing the process of recruiting.
I don't know what you asked the Judge, but I hope that someone simply misunderstood what the other person was saying.
Look at it this way: Would they really print a card that gives you free 10/10 characters with absolutely no teamstamping? Compare to the only actual alternate recruit cost 5 drop, Nightmaster, who requires a whopping 20 endurance and is only a 9/9.
Trust me, the 10/10 Kang is pretty good on it's own. I've had opponents get frustrated because I underdropped on turn 5... with a character bigger than their 5 drop, when I already had an equally large 4 drop in play, and knowing they could not actually force me to KO either until after my turn 6 initiative (because one would not be in play in the turn 5 combat phase). Why? 10/10 is damn big for a 4 drop.
Kang is interesting... the characters are all pretty weak, except they are all Kang, and thus have infi powerups available.
DoomGuard is correct. I used to run a variation on this deck to as it is jank but uber-fun jank.
Think of it this way. In order to reference the text of the card, it must be in the field of play. Cards not in the field of play are really just cardboard with a neat logo on it. You cannot immediately remove a card from play prior to its text becoming activated. All of that must go on the chain.

Okay, that's cool, it sounded too good to be true. :-) Master of Time is better for my purposes anyway.
I love my Kang deck so far, I'll probably add more pumps by taking out Time Thief. It has run incredibly well thus far... I'm sure it's probably just luck, but it's fun luck. Thanks for clearing that up, guys! Much appreciated.
with that four drop i used to drop him the remove the 1 drop and leave the 4 drop wasn't sure if is legal but it was sure fun to see peoples face though
To be precise, if it says 'a character named Kang', then it means any of your Kangs, but if it says 'Kang' it means the character that ability is printed on.
Kang, Ultimate Kang is the best example there: Ultimate Kang can only use his power when Ultimate Kang is a defender, but you can stun any other character named Kang for his effect. Why? Because he says 'Only use this when Kang is defending', which means 'Only when THIS Kang is defending', but the cost is 'Stun another /character named Kang/ you control'.
The main advantage to a Kang deck is it's good for powerups. That's still pretty damn nifty. Esp. if you go with a JSA or (GA) Brotherhood team-up.
Hey whats to complain about it's still a 10/10 four drop. I mean the normal 5 drop is around a 9/9, so that is a problem for the opponent one hes out. It's essencially a 4 and 5 drop of the opponents vs. you "two five drops."

Heh... if it was an oversized 2 or 3 drop that had the ability, Kang would a powerhouse team. Particularly if it was an oversized 3, I think. "Skipping" 4 is just so painful... sigh.
Kang is just so unfocused. It's early game is pretty bad at stalling, really. The new Kang 2 helps, sure, but the 3 drops are horrible and don't self KO (okay, so maybe I hate Search and Destroy a little too much)
