If you want a countdown/52 set what are the teams? Don't mind it but just can not wrap my head around what the teams would be to fit in with what VS is about.

Personally, I think the two stories are waaaay too big to split a set. 52 would have Intergang and The Great 10 would be the two villain teams, each of which would have some dual-affiliation with Darkseid's Elite. Chang-Tzu's Science Squad would be DA'd to Great 10 and Intergang.
There would probably only be one big 'good guy team' and that would probably be a JSA refeature, where they introduce, through dual affiliation, a Countdown team - the Marvels, or Shazam! or whatever you want to call it.
That's three full teams just from 52.
Then there are the mini-teams. Luthor's Everyman project - Infinity, Inc - is big enough for a small team. Then there are the heroes in time. The heroes in space. The Croatoan Society. This would basically be mostly flavorful legacy condensed into mini-teams that had a lot of crossover between themselves. - though that would be a ##### to design.
The problem with combining the two, besides the size of the stories, is that we don't know enough about Countdown yet - there really aren't any clearly defined 'teams' in Countdown thus far.
You guys like to come with names for what all these teams could be, but as it is right now I think (IMO) it's more likely that we're just going to see mostly re-features and maybe 1-2 new teams per set. They seems to be focusing on filling out old teams.
Well, that's well and fine, but then calling it 52 would be kind of silly, then, as the entire premise of it is that the 'big' players are nowhere to be found. No Batman, Superman...no Kyle, or Wally, or Hal, or any of the rest of the JLA to be found. Crisis worked because 1) the set was good, and 2) it captured the event. Shadowpact, Checkmate? New teams with little history...but crucial teams to the event in question.
For instance, on your list, IG, GL, SC, and JLI have had very little to do with either event thus far - though, to be fair, the inclusion of New Gods in a Countdown-based set was inspired. It's the first actual Vs. team I've seen as important in Countdown.
Edit: Actually, there's another team affiliation that people have been begging for that should be in a Countdown-based set: The Rogues Gallery.
It's a rule. X-Men must be refeatured at least once a month.
My other theory is that it's a really bad drinking game, and everytime someone loses-wins, they have to drink a bottle of vodka and try and see how much of an X-Men set they can write in a single night.
crap. and here i was thinking it would be the avengers (based on the flyer and all...) ima need a bigger crypt for my x-men then. unless they finally get it right this time.
no avengers for legends?
Civil War
Avengers - a "good guy and bad guy" team at the same team using the version for Initiative and rebels (?)
Thunderbolts -- ALL the villians could pretty much end up here similar to villians united.
NEW WARRRIORS at last? I mean they DID cause the whole thing to break wide open
heres also your S.H.I.E.L.D. though they could be the Initiative side of Avengers as well perhaps a second mini with the top heavy end of shield being DA shield/avengers?
I think the new DC Multiverse opens up some team possibilities that weren't there before. Upper Deck could introduce an "Earth-trait" mechanic, similar to mutant traits, that allows characters with the same name to not trigger each other's uniqueness as long as they have different Earth-traits and there is some kind of Crisis card in play.
The Marvel Family, for example, is probably a team that wasn't big enough to be featured before, but if we include their duplicates on Earth-5, they might make the cut now.
Similarly, there's the characters DC acquired from Charlton Comics, the Action Heroes (not their literal name, but it's what they're called on the Archive Editions, so it's good enough for VS). They have some noiry dopplegangers on Earth-4 now.
And the original Freedom Fighters may all be dead on Earth-52, but they're still alive on Earth-10, so there's another team that can now be featured in a set. Plus, that Earth also has a Nazi Batman, and I think we all need a little more Nazi Batman in our lives.
Also, there are some teams that weren't technically part of DC continuity until the new multiverse was established. Earth-17 has the Atomic Knights. Earth-50 has the Wildcats, the Authority, and Gen-13.
I know th thread is vs. in 2008 but I would like to think about the present. All I want to see for Marvel and DC Legends are characters that have long deserved their card incarnations and some good legacy content for teams that deserve it like sentinel, crime lords, green lantern, squadron supreme, marvel knights, and others.
One thing this game has been big on is making limited play a very strong part of how any set is created. Because of this I think it would be a huge risk to make a lot of mini teams.
I do have to re think last two set of next year with some of those teams being used this year.
Maybe marvel does something with Annihilation that would about two years for Heralds, also chance for Negitive Zone to get a full team, Kree gets to play? Maybe Shair slide in at this point?
As for DC. If JSA does not get done in Legends then them, Checkmate again. Infinity Inc. , Does the Marvel Family both sides have enough for a full team? I guess you could make two cards for each person? The Great Ten might fill this out?
OK so I thought I would bring this back. With their being some question about what VS will hold for 08, good to bring this back to show there is still interest and excitment for sets going into a new year.
We know Civil War is Listed to open 08'
And looking through the old sets, looked to see MGH goes out of SA with the next Marvel set of the year.
How would Annihilation look in this spot?
Heralds again
Kree without press, throw in Nova, Gammora, Star lord in with them.
Negative Zone geting a full roster.
Edit: Oh and yes Phalanx has made its return to marvel so they could have a spot also.
