Is there anyone who seriously believes that if WOW never existed, that VS would be better off?
If WoW didn't exist, I'd have three or four extra players in my area. They're interested in VS, but don't have the money to keep buying cards for both games.
I know a few people who are still trying to play both (and some people who tried WOW and stuck to VS), although from my unscientific research at the events I've judged, we're seeing most of our players come from Magic and from the MMO, folks that haven't played TCGs before.
UDE probably has so much invested in the future of WoW that they are freaking out when their sales of a sub-par game are slumping. Hmmm....could it be that the millions realize that the game sucks? I've tried it, and it really just sucks. I guess I've been spoiled by playing an exciting game. A game called VS. VS is a superior game in almost every way. By almost I mean we don't have "loot" cards like WoW does. If they were to say make "loot" cards for comic book collectors along the lines of exclusive variants and what not, that should get more interest into the game. I've read somewhere that both Marvel and DC are coming out with their very own MMORPG (what ever its called), so the question here is, could they bring "loot" cards to these games?
Just from my own opinion, and not based on any actual knowledge; I think Blizzard is just a lot more helpful about mingling their content with the TCG content, whereas Marvel and DC don't seem to be as eager to cross-promote.

I do.
History has shown that a company cannot market/support 2 successful games that have a similar player base... let alone 2 card games period.
UDE has been more succesful than WoTC as it had YGO/VS and now YGO/WoW... but the "success" of VS (and maybe WoW) were not long.
What other card game than Magic has WoTC been able to have a large following with?
Many of the VS players moved to WoW... if VS were to drop the PCs and move the Regionals/Worlds system that WoW has... I'm sure those players would have stayed.
But business is business. I still consider us fortunate that we still have VS sets (at least one more) to look forward to.
I honestly wonder (and there's not really a way to tell either way, before ten pages of discussion spawn from this) if the VS OP could have stayed at it's old levels, even if the WoW license never happened.

Nope.
The old levels of VS OP had to be changed regardless of WoW. The ascension of WoW just made it more painful.
Again... not enough people were buying/playing VS to justify the huge OP expenses. Superman/Batman/Spiderman couldn't keep taking money from Yugi/Jaden.

Now if a VS player wants Yugioh money, they have to rough up the kids in the back alley after a tournament. Shake em down players...shake em down.
