Honestly, one of the best ways I've found to spread interest in the game is:
1. Find one other person to play, and teach them thoroughly. (hell, give them a solid on team deck)
then
2. Choose one or more well matched decks to play against it.
3. Go to a local coffee shop (which are great for allowing you to do just about anything, so long as you've got a drink near you) or any other sit down and talk environment.
4. Play the game, and genuinely have fun. You'll see how much interest this garners from passers by.
So I guess what I'm saying is, find one friend, and make them sit down and learn. It's a good game, so they'll likely enjoy it, even if they don't think they will. Play with that friend in front of other people. Use playing as an excuse to spend time together, chatting about comics at a coffee shop, or hanging out in the University centre.
Edit: If you're having trouble enlisting a friend to play, try showing willingness and interest in something they like but you think you'd enjoy. That works wonders.
Yeah. That 'married' thing doesn't work out for crap. I've been married for 6 years and my wife won't board-, role-, card-, miniature-, or even video-game with me at all. I had to procreate in order to breed my own personal army of gaming minions. (Is it wrong to awaken my sons by screaming Level 1 Judge Exam questions at them each morning?)

From my personal point of view,
Get a gamer-girl to marry you . . . ."

Oh, in all seriousness, btw. Most universities have a (sometimes well hidden) role-playing or gaming club somewhere in it's basement. Try starting there. Or even a Mensa group. Last ditch effort? Set up some demos and open gaming events, post on the local kiosks, and reserve a room at your student-community-center. After a couple tries, you should be able to draw some players out.
Oh, and as stereotypical as it sounds, posting flyers at the Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Math buildings are pretty much sure-bets for responses. Sorry, but gamers are nerds. Use that to your advantage.

I just saying sometimes the laws of the universe bend and you can get both, my wife is both beautiful and a gamer geek. Perhaps I needed this reality check to realize just how lucky I really am.
Thanks Homer.
Oh and No he should be able to answere from a dead sleep, I'll have to start that with my daughter at age six I think she's already begun to get sloppy during her formation step. I blame the lack of a solid OP program.
Gaming and love are difficult to mix...at this point I refuse to even date ladies from outside the general gaming circle (of course that circle includes about 150 people in it so ymmv).
She kept me up this morning making fun of me because Monday she pwn3d my Scorpion Chi Death deck with a Mantis Force Redux/PK Deck(The first deck she's ever built from nothing, she usually mods), then on Tuesday she shut down my Brotherhood Blitz with Batman, Earth 2. I had to get mocked for 10 minutes before she let me sleep...
Seriously though Squire. You an I are frighteningly similar. Getting married does not add to the gaming experience. When your wife drops you off at the store and her parting words are "you ####ing geek" you know you're not going to have any strip Vs system sessions any time soon.
And back on topic - LoL - Loughborough is only about 20 - 30 minutes aways - I'm pretty sure they're setting up a decent sized community.
Oh who am I kidding? She'll never see these forums. She hasn't even listened to an episode of TRHC.
On the up-side, the announcement of Poke-Marvel releasing in the spring is just the gateway game I've been waiting for to teach my 5-year old. It won't be long now till I'll have a gamer living with me! Whoo Hoo!

I think I may try to make it a second local place for VS, once I get some demo sessions arranged(and establish one here). I have the mr president comic dude guy saying that he has some cards but doesnt know how to play and that a demo session would help to explain.:)
