There's a fellow at my comic shop that I used to play Vs. with who has since quit since there isn't any place to play in town. When I told him that MUN had NextWave in it he said:
Nextwave is hands down the most *fun* comic Marvel has put out in the last decade. It's not mired in continuity, it laughs at its own expense, it's just plain fun.
I barely read any DC, but that's no reason to spew hatred on any DC cards. In an internet-enabled world, you can just type stuff into Google or Wikipedia to find out all you want to now... Never mind that UDE posted some info when they previewed Tabby and Elsa, and otherarticles in the VS blogosphere.
I heartilly recommend a trip to your local comic store to pick up the two tpb's.
I'm a huge Nextwave fan ,a dn am delighted to see them in the set, but the thread starter has a point - this set is full of mini-teams that add to nothing from a constructed point of view. As huge a fan of Next Wave I am, even I would have preferred to see them ditched in favour of giving either Alpha Flight or Negative Zone some more help to make a working deck. As for all the Unaffiliated and Asgardians, as cool as they are the same goes.
This feels like a regular 220 card set with an extra 100 card of flavour that are in way playable, and just amke the normal teams very hard to collect and play.
I love the flavour, but wish that a tighter focus on playability was kept.
I just borrowed my friend's Trade Paperbacks for Nextwave and I have almost finished with the first volume. I also wanted to know why the five characters were in the set instead of other cards (and also why my friend wanted the Nextwave cards more than any other cards in MUN).
The series is extremely funny and also very entertaining. I would suggest picking up and/or borrowing comics/ trade paperbacks of nextwave if you can get your hands on them! The flavor of the cards is PERFECT!
I somewhat knew some of the characters because for a short time I was picking up Ms.Marvel comics because Sleepwalker was in a team-up with her and Machine Man. Plus they were in one of the more recent Marvel Zombies comics.
I would have liked if the Tabby Smith card blew up resources instead of stealing counters even though stealing is flavorful for her as well.
Lastly, there is a chance that Fing Fang Foom is only in the set because of his appearance in the Nextwave comics! Most of the Nextwave art I have seen in MUN corresponds to the artwork from the comics in the first TPB. I know Fing Fang Foom is a known character in Marvel but maybe, just maybe, seeing him in Nextwave was a reminder that he should be in Vs. as well!
With no DC at least for the immediate future, I'd say it's a perfect time to toss a few cards Nextwave's way. They're doing exactly what their book did: Add some humor and fun to a scene that often takes itself too seriously. Especially since it's about people in spandex braining each other.
a guy no one likes, a vulgur insulter, a drunk, a theif, and a has been living in the past. seriously some of my favorite flavor for any team. That and im excited to see someone in a tournament have to say "The captain, captain america, batman, superman, every single power ranger, Bill S Preston, Theadore logan... wait wrong song sorry)
Warren Ellis writing with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Nextwave so rocks, so much so we should have a Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis only VS release.
Not just Nextwave but Jesse , Spider Jerusalem, William Gravel, Anna Mercury, Butcher and Terror, Wee Hughie, Cassidy, Tulip, Frank Castle (ok so he's been done), even Ronald Wipes (I'm a mutha f###ing dragon #####!!)
Huh. Cool. Guess the rumors of Nemesis' demise were greatly exaggerated. If I have any extra of MUN from selling off my case, I'll have to try and slap together a deck.
My only issue with Nextwave is the insult card. It's a slippery slope.
Your face is a slippery slope!
(did I use the card effect correctly?)
I used to be of the same opinion when RoShamBo came out but I now realize that with the loss of "money" OP... we need to be a little more relaxed in our approach to this game.
Should events still have a high and strict level of judging... sure... but you can always temper that by saying anyone who plays Elsa can just say "I insult you" to use the effect.
We've already seen "Leeeroy Jenkins" in WoW... so Elsa is really nothing.
That reminds me. When Marvel Legends first came out, we used to have a house rule that any time you equipped Juggernaut's Helmet, you had to shout, in a British accent, "I'M THE JUGGERNAUT, #####!" I always thought that should be an official rule.
I'm British, and that was in NO WAY a British accent.
I'm sticking to that even if the guy who did it was British.
BTW nor is Hugh Grant or Dick van #### a typically British accent
