Full Metal Alchemist, was'nt too ba dbut never took off here so its dead for us.
YU-Gi-Oh! is still quite popular here and sees alot of competetive play. I stopped playing ages ago as it started getting a little silly with the loads of new sets and the constant need to put so much text on one card its so hard to read at times.
and Magic:the Gathering. Really big round here, has died down a small bit but still remains largely played. I'm actually heading to south of ireland at strat of august to take part in Irish National C'ships as I've already qualified.
But even better news, VS had been laying low alot recently here but since i mentioned to a mate that I'm gonna start he's been saying to his other mates who used to play and we may now see a resserection ^_^
VS is supposed to be realllly big down south in ireland here, any southerns confirm this? :p
Star Wars, Decipher version, hardest game with the most satisfying rewards for getting good at it. You couldn't lose on turn 1, and you HAD to play exactly 60 cards. (Eventually the side deck thing got to be problematic for many players, sending entire regions running screaming from the game).
Rage. two sided personas allowing the Werewolves and their were-creature cousins to shape change and alter their in game stats. 12 Tribes and a set of vilains made Rage interesting to play. 2 decks for different parts of the game made Rage just fast paced enough to make it a possible to win an unwinnable game. For instance, a deck that was strong politically (actions requiring certain amounts of reknown to accomplish or the majority vote) were rarely equipped with strong enough fighters to make a game one sided. I've still got Rage cards, even now, and will be teaching my fiance to play soon.
GI Joe is still great to play when sitting around looking for something fun and easy to do. If you grew up with the Joes and Cobras, you'll love the fast paced, simplistic game play.
Young Jedi was another cleverly simple game that took some poker-type skill to win your games. It was like I Declare War, but with Wild Cards. Loads of fun until Lincoln left his world championships decks in VA and couldn't bring himself to play any more. :(
I still enjoy the Babylon 5 card game (though not the Drakh part so much)...unfortunately there's not been enough free time for myself or my friends to properly play it in months.
I have loads of Shadowfist cards, but none in my current apartment...when I move, I'll hopefully be able to play it again!
There are several Jyhad (Vampire) and Netrunner cards gathering dust...I'll probably be selling them off sometime, and likely the same with the Magic cards (I've been out of circulation since...Tempest I think? Little stormcloud logo). Will probably keep a couple of decks "for fun" in any case, I keep making little refinements to a Merfolk deck because I enjoy them.
It was far from balanced, but I really enjoyed the Rage CCG (based on the Werewolf RPG). Jyhad (the original name of the Vampire CCG) was excellent, especially when you had 5+ players. Then it was freakin' amazingly thematic.
City of Heroes CCG was unfortunately way too unbalanced.
I don't really like Magic as a game, but you can't debate the fact that it has the biggest player base and consistent support. It's the "safest" CCG to get into in that you can be assured of having people to play with, cards available to buy for a reasonable price, and plenty of tournaments to attend. I played it for years before getting into VS and it wasn't too bad.
I also built a Pokemon deck to play with some guys who used to play it in college. Didn't really like it. Finally, I bought some starters of a game called "Ani-Mayhem" that I could never figure out how to play. It had Ranma 1/2 cards, though, so I liked it anyway.
WoWTCG is my favorite game. It's like improved MTG (none of the ridiculous mana problems), fantastic artwork, and it's Warcraft! Okay I'm biased on the last bit - always loved the Warcraft games.
UFS used to be up there, but with each set it feels like nothing new is added.
Bleach TCG was fun for a while, but we got bored with it. It just wasn't fun for casual play - too easy to attack and be unblockable.
Naruto CCG - I may have to try this again. I only played the first set, and while it's fun to make a deck with your favorite characters, it felt horribly unbalanced towards the lightning and fire elements. Now that there are 8 sets out, I'm wondering what it's like.
I've been wanting to play G.I.Joe just because I'm a fan, but I read so many bad reviews that I never gave it a chance.
Haha yeah as a long time WoW player i started into the WoW TCG right form the start. It had good game play and was great beating some classes at long last outside of the game ;)
The raid decks were also pretty cool.
It tok off easy enough here because of the bunch of TCG players who initally played Warcraft but has long since died down.
I still play magic, but I've cut down to just a single deck in the EDH(Elder Dragon Highlander) format. I also used to play the A Game of Thrones CCG, which I really liked, and thought had interesting strategy to it. Plus I still have my Stark Deck, and my Night's Watch Deck. I understand the game is going non-collectible though, which is cool, though I still have nobody to play the game with.
Finally, I bought some starters of a game called "Ani-Mayhem" that I could never figure out how to play. It had Ranma 1/2 cards, though, so I liked it anyway.
Was this recent? I have nearly a complete set of the game (missing several of the Dragonball Z cards). I even have all the promo cards. I tried teaching it to a friend once, but we quickly realized how badly the rules were written and how unbalanced the cards were. I didn't think there was anyone else who still remembered this game!
The only other collectable card game I ever played was OverPower. I actually have a few buddies that I play OP with from time to time. The game was great because it was impossible to break, and the game could turn in anyone's favor at any time. The rules were simple, but adaptable if you were tired of playing the same way over and over.
Magic
Warcraft, but only counting the first set and Onyxia. Onyxia was awesome.
Star Wars by Decipher
And my favorite CCG of all time: XXXenophile. The Foglio's dirty little game. Lots of hilarious jokes (most sex related), and a style of play that no CCG has ever duplicated as far as I know. Collecting was pointless, as if you "popped" a card, you KEPT it. Permanently. The card design could have used a bit more work, but the game itself was amazing.

I do. The game seemed like a fun idea (Bubblegum Crisis? Awesome!), but it was designed for SOLO play. How lame.
More important question to me: Has anyone ever DESIGNED their own CCG? I have, and it's amazingly fun to do.
