I'm gonna avoid addressing the issue, in the hopes that Spud gets forced to do more CRD searches. Among other reasons. But in the meantime...what exactly have you been doing with Hellboy?
Hahaha, That's exactly what I thought when I read his post!
I'm also here to explain that spud is right... but instead of searching CRD like everyone else seems to have, I'll just say...
Spud is right.
I'm guessing hes been returning the 4 drop Hellboy to hand to KO their 6 drop or less.
Hellboy 7 Drop
When Hellboy comes into play, you may return BPRD characters you control to your hand. If you do, stun target opposing character of cost 6 or less.
I think thats how its worded. We were having a discussion about this a few months back if you could transfer all the tokens on a 3 drop Beast Boy onto the 6 drop Beast Boy before the 3 Drop KO'ed. Don't think they managed to work it out or not.
You have to KO the 4 drop hellboy before the seven drop comes in.

this is what I was told -
1. Hellboy 7 comes in on turn 7
2. recruit chain begins - uniqueness rule and coming into play being on the chain
3. both uniqueness rull and Hellboy's coming into play effect are placed on the chain
4. Hellboy 4 being KOed to the uniqueness rule is processed first as any normal recruitment would
5. before the KO resolves as the recruit chain is still resolving not just the uniqueness rule - Hellboy 4 and all other characters are bounced back to the hand. Both effects are resolved at this point and thus, the recruit chain is resolved ( both uniqueness and coming into play effect)
I could have sworn there was a ruling a bit back that stated that Hellboy 7 drop could reach back and return the 4 drop to the owners hand. Character cards that are recruited that generate effects don't have the ability to execute their effects unlike stunned characters (looking back and such)...
Still does'nt make sense to me that he (Hellboy) can't bounce everybody once the whole recruit chain has been resolved, but that's how it goes I guess...

Uniqueness doesn't chain. It happens at a point where no player has priority.
504.1 Triggered powers, payment powers, plot twists, delayed triggered modifiers, and the game itself can put effects on the chain. Recruiting a character or equipment also puts an effect on the chain. Copying an effect puts another effect on the chain.
Characters entering into play can generate effects that go on the chain...
I know that the uniqueness rule has priority, but the character has also started a chain upon coming to play that must be resolved as that character comes into play
If the text in questioned said when you first gain control of this character, then...
The characters in question have effects that can only be resolved on a chain that includes the check for uniqueness...
There is a game state that is called when "it (the character) comes into play" which is when the uniqueness rule is checked. It is also at that time that any and all "enter into play" effects must/should be resolved. If resolution is achieved after the character "enters into play" then that resolution is to late.
It's the same situation as "at the start of combat" or "at the start of recovery" - resolving a "coming into play" situation as though it were a while/when you control this character is/are 2 different things.
Oh my God... dude... I just covered this. Uniqueness is invoked and resolved entirely before any "enters play" powers trigger. It does NOT use the chain, it happens instantly at that stage of resolving a recruit.
At NO POINT will you have two of the same character name on the board. The old one dies before the new one is officially in play.
Silkmane: you are 100% incorrect. You are in no way correct. HC has backed me up... please stop arguing..

RRAAAAAAAARRGHH!! SPUD SMASH!
Incredible...
If this is a forum for discussion - let the people discuss man...
HC asked me what was I doing with Hellboy 7 and I responded to him.
I was finished with it Sir - just needed to respond to my Bigbrother on the matter. Again, just discussing what little I know about the rules Spud. I do know that there is a "coming into play" that checks for effects as well as uniqueness all on the same chain.
I would love for there to be more definition concerning this portion of our game as there are alot of effects that are'nt being utilized to their full extent IMO...
You keep saying that he comes into play before you check for uniqueness, which is incorrect. Let me see if I can help:
You recruit Hellboy 7 (or whomever that has a "When <name> enters play/comes into play" effect), which means that you put his recruit effect on the chain. As part of resolving his recruit effect, you invoke the uniqueness rule, thus KOing all your unique characters with the same name. After all of that is complete (including your characters being put into the KO'd pile due to uniqueness), then the character enters play, thus triggering the "When <name> enters play" effect.
When you recruit a character, that character doesn't automatically enter play, but has to wait for the recruit effect to resolve, which includes checking for uniqueness.
silkmane --- If you read 508.3 and 704.1, both quoted in Spud's earlier post, you'll find precisely the points that everyone has been making.
1) Uniqueness is dealt with as part of resolving the recruit effect.
2) Effects which are triggered during the resolution of that recruit effect are placed on the chain after it has finished resolving.
The quoted bits of CRD are clear on these two points. And, together, those rules also make it clear that Blink 5 and Hellboy 4 must already be in the KO'd pile before their 7-drops' triggered effects even go on the chain, let alone resolve.
The only way that you would be able to use a char without it getting KOed is as part of a cost. Cards such as the MUN 5 drop hulk and MTU 7 drop Venom would fit the conditions. Anything not paid as a cost will resolve after the recruiting is actually sucessful.

Thanks HC...
I like the way you resolve rules issues without coming across as a smart

brass punk. Anyway, I finished with it...

Wow, Spud held it together way longer than I would have. I wouldn't have been able to resist a "spud smash" after that third post.
Sorry I had to jump in here to give my two cents in this "discussion."
