I think that whole "contract for 10 years" is just something people keep assuming. Not many companies would license a property for that length of time... maybe it was for 2 or 3 years and renewable up to 10.
Had they not said they would make an announcement after MEV's release, then no.
But they did, so they should.

Anyways, back to shift!
There are no planned non-Marvel Evolution announcements until after the release of Marvel Evolution.
Sit back and enjoy the show!

UDE Vs. Research and Development
This would probably be the perfect thread to insert Seth Green's quote from tonight's Heroes where he talked to a guy who talked to another guy who says that it's been printed and delivered to an unknown bike messenger.
No news is good news, right? I call bull####. I want to know if I'm promoting this game to try to keep it going or just so my friends have something to do on off days. Judges don't get anything for holding tournaments, bringing new players into the game or keeping an interest in this game.
I have kept Vs alive here in Tucson on my own dime for the past 10 months... and I'm starting to get sick of it. Without my efforts and pushing for my boss to actually carry the product, the game is done with here in Tucson.
I've made back my money just by playing this game and enjoying the times I've had with my friends. But, it would still be nice to know if I have a chance to build a deck for an actual tournament that I didn't have to fit the bill for or judge.
I've tried so hard to do so much for this game, and all I've asked for is one, little announcement. WoW tcg got a full list of events for next year... A FULL F***ING LIST, and we have recieved hobby league event announcements through January.
I will not be a player/judge for Vs after January 9th if I haven't heard some form of confirmation that we have a reason to play competive. Serously, are we as the players really asking for too much? Just to know if we have another set to play with or an event to plan a trip for?
I am truly upset with how UdE has treated Vs ever since Yu-Gi-Oh took their money back. I've stayed silent too long, and I'm very tempted to walk if something doesn't happen soon. This is not a threat, and I'm sure that my "promise" will NOT have any form of sway or contribution to if UdE gives us an announcement, but I need to get this out.
I've already lost one game this year, and I would prefer to not lose another just because some "suit" didn't feel that Vs was the money-maker it was when Vs is clearly doing better than WoW mini's, Marvel Ultimate Battles or the Call of Duty tcg. Excuse us for your failures, but we are helping to keep your company afloat.

Wow... I'm glad someone else beat me on this question... but I'm not sure I like the results...
I see that we all are feeling nervous about this "announcement". All I can bring up is maybe some hopefully positive things that are keeping this game alive (and well into the future).
- Marvel Civil War sold out when it came out. Producing another set after that (with higher orders) is a good thing. It proves that it's selling.
- Every other game created for money tournaments has died as soon as the money tournaments were canceled for them. This is the only game that I can think of that has kept going and only shown improvement in sales even after the company cut as much funding as UDE has.
- I've also heard that UDE has a 10 year contract with Marvel. If that's true then they won't kill this game (not at least at the rate sales are now). We may never see any big tournaments for it though again and it's much cheaper for them to just print out cards as prizes that will keep us all happy.
- Now that we're only getting two sets per year it leaves more time to swap in creative teams from Wow and other games to do them.
- I'd say that VS is looking better in the last 2 weeks than it has since we all learned that Civil War sold out. We got a new set that seems to be selling well if not good, we're getting new point store/hobby league cards, and they're even giving us a release celebration. I've even heard a rumor that the theme of the next set has been decided upon for next year.
Hey, I feel the same as everyone else but I'm still trying to stay positive. It would be nice if they made the announcement soon though because I know that we're all dying trying to be patient to find out if the news is rather good or bad. In my opinion no one should be #####ing about what UDE owes us... it's just a game that we happen to really like and pay money for. If they don't make enough money (especially in the current economic crisis) to give us the extra perks they used to then that's to be expected. Hey, even the mighty Magic had a slump a few years after it's inception and it came back.
Until the announcement says so... UDE hasn't given up on it's fans and we shouldn't give up on them.
what doomstat has said is what i believe competitive and semi-competitive players are feeling.. hobby league is fun and all but some times it just doesnt have that little push for satisfaction.. i know it maybe sound like whining but the truth of the matter is that ude should for its best interest make annoucement for future OP. or they may lose its competitive fan base...
Ummm, I fail to see the word "immediately" in that sentence.
Although anything that did not happen yesterday is automatically late on the Realms.
It has always been thus.
I never said immediately...though it has been a week. Those who were gonna buy have bought, and those that pre-ordered have probably already bought more.
I get that they would want to sell out before telling us its over...but frankly at this point it really wouldnt matter.
Im hoping we continue along the lines of Vampire...a couple of sets a year for the next five years. Theyd be foolish to not keep the remaining two staffers and then have them do the Vs thing for a couple of months every few months along with their other duties.
That being said, I bought my case...wheres my announcement.
That being said, I bought my case...wheres my announcement.
Exactly. When I buy a pack of cards, I'm not just getting the point card and 14 MEV cards in the pack. The efforts of the relevant parties (R&D, etc) and the perceived promises UDE gives to the consumer are sealed up in that wrapper too.
If there were no magic FNMs or tournaments then I'd expect the cost of their packs to go down, because I am perceptively getting less out of my packs. If the set sucks, I shouldn't have to pay as much, for the same/similar reason. I'm patient, but as a consumer and having followed previous VS trends I would not otherwise be lead to believe that there are no more events (like say if I never went online for vs and just got tournament info from my lgs).
I agree completely with most you guys. Gods, we haven't even got MEV over here yet (thanks UDE:I). But at the moment, if we don't get it: thats it - no more tournaments or events in our area. Personally with the sort of treatment that VS gets (man, how much effort would it take to update their vs website????) I am getting a little sick. I got into the game, cause other guys in the area were playing it and called it the coolest game ever. I agreed with them, and got a few more guys to play, who have now started getting some more to play. The fact that we gamers keep on buying their cards should entitle us to a simple answer to a simple question:
Will we have another set after this? YES/NO (delete where applicable)
How hard is it?
Funnily enough, why have they never done another Essential Collection after Hellboy? Weird isn't it since ya can't get Hellboy sets easily these days. I would have loved a Essential Collection for...ohh...I don't know....2000AD comics or etc. Woah, that was a bit off topic. IGNORE THIS BIT :D unless you like reading mindless rants.
I actually had a discussion about this with my boss, the likely hood of another set of VS being printed. Now I'm an avid VS player, I love the game, however I think that this maybe the last bang for it. While the sets do sell out, they don't produce it to the same volume that they produce yugioh sets, nor do they have anywhere near the same attendance. I remember going to mega weekend LA, there were a bunch of people there, but honestly it was just a small bit bigger than a local yugi regional. With the economy the way it is, UDE needs to cut areas where they can, and the VS branch isn't exactly booming as it may have once been. It's sad because I like the player base for VS a lot more than I do for yugi, it isn't filled with idiots who net deck all day and steal from/rip off little kids for a card that's worth 90 bucks for a month until it's reprinted at such a high quantity that it's worth a dollar.
It really all comes down to the license if they have the license they're likely to make the next 2 sets if they don't they won't.
Sales help since if they have the license and the set turns a profit they will most likely bring in a R&D team (3 or so people) to build the next 2 VS sets(and 2-3 subpointstore sets) do minimal testing and have them prepped for next year.
