Anyone interested in setting up a new hobby league (and not with Kings Games) should get out there and visit many of the comic shops in NYC and Brooklyn. Informing these stores that they would have a brand new source of customers would probably entice them to start HL's of their own for different games.
If people are worried about playing together... just do what my friend Mike and I do... meet at a fast food chain that stays open late! You can still see and hang out with your friends!
If this game continues and no other store picks up hobby league (or a new gaming store doesn't open up in it's place) the new york city group of players should contact each other to discuss things.
My last thoughts are that someone who is very responsible and loves this game should probably go to Kings Games and start running HL there. I was told by Alex many times that he would love to get it going there again and asked if I knew anyone who was interested in running it. This might be our only alternative. Yes Alex really screwed up the last mega weekend here, but in the past before that he normally ran things smoothly. If someone (one of us) was there to actually manage HL (who cares enough) this might not be a bad situation. Besides, Alex is a business man... he'll want as much of Neutral Ground's old action as possible. I'm sure he wouldn't want to get into trouble with UDE again after the last time. It's worth a shot.

Let me just respond to this by saying I am talking to my managers and we are discussing the possibility of bringing gaming to the NYC store. It seems like this may be a good opportunity to bring a new Hobby League to NYC players.

That would be totally awesome!!! Let us know what we can do to help convince them!!!! (I could swing by and purchase a few packs if that would help...)

i was going to suggest this to you. if its even possible.. we could inform all the gamers at NG (magic, vs, pokemon, yugioh..) that after NG closes to potential of having a hobby league in midtown ny is quite possible very soon. so we could give them a heads up!
also steve ng is open today.. i think they close at the end of the month

Please, please, please do this. It would be so nice.
I just spoke with management there and I was informed that they were headed this way for awhile. Different problems coming constantly at them from different areas. One issue has to do with the space they signed a 10 year lease on. Apparently they were told they could use the basement for gaming (expecting to hold at least 50 to 100 players at a time) and the zoning board has told them they are only allowed a maximum of about 20 people at a time due to safety regulations. That definitely hurts business. Then there were supposedly different issues with distributers and their own problems followed by a Naruto tournament/regional that tanked for them. I actually feel a bit bad because they actually did put a lot of improvements into their new store and at least some of the employees really do care about it's well being. I was told the owner even looked for a partner (a few months back) and the plan to have Wizards of the Coast take over was an option that didn't happen. All in all it's also just not the best time to have a purely "gaming" store. For a shop that "specializes" in something like gaming to make it right now it needs a very strong customer/player base or it needs to have many other things to offer to sell like video games or books. The fact that NG had to move this past year and did all of it's renovating during a recession has got to really hurt. Most businesses are closing and not starting "anew".
Hopefully something can work out with Jim H's because it's in a prime location, they stay open late, and they have ton's of space. This would be a good deal for them if they were willing to do it! In fact I'm going to try to email them right now!
Yes, please let the management know that we intend to participate in and promote any hobby league conducted at the Manhattan location, schedules permitting. (For me, Tuesday and Thursdays are no good, but Mondays and Wednesdays seem mighty purty.)
I just left an email with JH's.... I would suggest everyone try to send them an email (as professional as possible) that shows interest in gaming there! Their email is [email protected]
