The majority of them have turned out pretty well. I'm shooting from the hip with numbers but I'd say probably 85% of the time I end my first turn with Stardust Dragon on the field after I've used Dux/Phalanx or Mistletainn/Phalanx. The times that I haven't been able to drop a Synchro turn one I usually have to set a Phalanx or Aclys worst case. Ravine really makes a lot possible since having it makes so many hands live. Having Terraforming to search it out makes it even more consistent.
Like any deck there are the occasional hands of all Spells, Traps or Monsters.
Here's some samples hands and how I would play them out. If anyone sees a better move that I'm missing shout it out:
Hand 1 Phalanx, Aklys, Aklys, Phalanx, Ravine, Warning
Play Ravine, use it's effect and discard Phalanx to get Dux. Summon Dux, get Phalanx and Special Summon it. Synch Dux and Phalanx for Vajrayana, get Phalanx and Special Summon it. Synch Vajrayana and Phalanx for Stardust Dragon. Set Warning and end turn.
Hand 2 Consonance, Terraforming, Dux, Phalanx, Veiler, Phalanx
Play Terraforming and get Ravine. Play Ravine use it's effect and discard Phalanx to get another Dux. Play Consonance and discard Phalanx, drew Terraforming and Consonance. My gut feeling here is to play the second Terraforming to get another Ravine and thin my deck. Summon Dux, get Phalanx and Special Summon it. Synch Dux and Phalanx for Vajrayana, get Phalanx and Special Summon it. Synch Vajrayana and Phalanx for Stardust Dragon.
Hand 3 Trap Stun, Warning, MST, Legionnaire, Warning, Stun
This is definitely a stinker hand but with the double Warning it could be manageable. I'd probably set Warning and MST and end.
Hand 4 Ravine, Stun, Dux, Terraforming, Phalanx, Reborn
Play Ravine, use it's effect and discard Phalanx to get Dux. Summon Dux, get Phalanx and Special Summon it. Synch Dux and Phalanx for Vajrayana, get Phalanx and Special Summon it. Synch Vajrayana and Phalanx for Stardust Dragon. Play Terraforming, get Ravine, set Trap Stun and end.
Hand 5 Legionnaire, Terraforming, Seven Tools, Dux, Mystletainn, Ravine
There's really two options here, I'm going to go with the one that keeps Dux in my hand for turn 2 in case I need it. Play Ravine, use it's effect and discard Legionnaire to get Phalanx. Summon Phalanx. Send Phalanx to the Graveyard to Special Summon Mystletainn. Get Phalanx with Mystletainn's effect and Special Summon it. Synch Mystletainn and Phalanx for Stardust Dragon. Play Terraforming, get Ravine, set Seven Tools and end.
As far as Effect Veiler goes I love it in theory to protect Ravine from Black Rose, Hyunlei and anything that Shi En tries to shut down. We'll see if it plays out when the real testing begins.
The other thing I think people need to remember is that as great as it may be to use Vajrayana to "level up" from a Level 6 to Level 8 Synchro you can also grab Aklys when you summon Vajrayana and then send Aklys to the Graveyard to double Vajrayana's attack and clear out one of your opponent's cards.
Made a few minor changes to the deck, dropped both of the Trap Stuns for another copy of Seven Tools of the Bandit and Royal Oppression. Other than that I'm going to max out on Terraforming and try out Pot of Avarice to recycle Dux, Legionnaire and whatever is necessary to my Extra Deck. All in all I added:
1 Terraforming
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Seven Tools of the Bandit
1 Royal Oppresion
I still like Mistletainn for it's ability to swarm and make a higher percentage of opening hands live.
I'm going to try out Divine Wrath in place of Icarus Attack. I never seem to draw Icarus Attack and when I do I have Stardust on the field. It seems a little to situational for my liking despite it's great potential.
I saw this in one of the YCS decks that just topped and thought it was a great idea so I'm going to be running Mind Crush in the main deck since there are some many different cards that reveal things to you these days. Pot of Duality, Smoke Screen, Gateway, Stratos, the list goes on and on.
I'm still debating if I want to cut out one Mistletainn and one Aclys but right now I kind of like how the deck is running.
Looking forward to dropping Zephyros the Elite into this deck in a few weeks. Until then I'm kind of in a rut. I feel like the deck needs something else, I'm just not sure what it is right now.
I'm trying to make the deck more consistent. It plays an insane amount of Tuners so I'm testing out Mind Control in the main deck to help out when I can't find Dux or Legionnaire. I guess the other option here is Pot of Duality but I'm still skeptical about that because the deck does really need to Special Summon to win. There must be something else I could run, maybe Hand Destruction or Dark World Dealings?
So everyone knows the issues with this deck. When it opens well it has a good chance but when it doesn't open well or D.D. Crow hits Phalanx things can go wrong in a hurry.
I'm trying a few new things to make the deck more versatile. The main addition is Snipe Hunter. The deck does already play a lot of discard costs but there are times that Dux, Phalanx, Legionnaire, Terraforming and a host of other cards are dead in the hand. I can pitch any of those dead cards with Snipe Hunter to try to open up the field. It also fuels Pot of Avarice, which I may increase to two copies.
I started updating my deck for the new ban list and was intrigued by the Japanese National Deck that ran Malefic Stardust Dragon. I'm trying to decide if it makes more sense to run Malefic Stardust Dragon, since the Extra Deck already runs though it does rely on it quite a bit, or Malefic Cyber End Dragon, which would force me to run Cyber End Dragon and take up space in my Extra Deck.
Both have their pros and cons, though right now I'm leaning towards Cyber End Dragon for the extra attack power.
