Really agree with Shiv - just knowing the set that you're drafting from inside and out is so vital and will save a lot of time - usually you can tell really quick what you want to take without having to read each card and think about its uses.

Especially with a timer on this, usually it's a short timer too. So having lots of foreknowledge is pretty much a requirement. People at first might complain that they don't have enough time to draft a card and to increase the timer, follow by lots of people telling them to read the whole set, and it just goes back and forth. There should really be a guide/sticky that reads "*IMPORTANT* Read before you do your (first) Draft"

This is a great point, and one I had not considered when I decided to re-learn drafting. This is probably the most important aspect that a player can work on to become a superior drafter.
Yea it's very proactive and through the randomness of drafting your knowledge of the cards and what could come is one of the things you can actually control.
