Well, some things require more than that. Like, just off the top of my head, how would you word a Jester's win con of winning when they are killed via voting? There are things that require there to be a term for being killed via voting and how it is different from a nightkill.
Long ago, when I modded a game, I used the term "defeated," as in, "Girathon has been defeated!" Of course, it was a superhero theme so the term "defeated" fit. I also used it for both day votes and night kills.
And I think the jester's win con is pretty easy: "You win the game if during any day phase you are voted out" or "You win the game if you are killed via voting."
You realize “lynch” is a term that’s been around much longer than the events that are connected to the connotations that concern you? Frankly, it’s never bothered people before - at least not enough that in fifteen years of playing anyone felt like saying anything - and most of the terms being brought up are far more violent.
We’re playing a game called “Mafia”. Maybe I should voice distaste that any “scummy group” is being connotated to those of a particular regional originating one related to my ancestry? The entire name of what we have here and the opposing side is a slur I’ve had to deal with my whole life (no exaggeration; go stand in estate court and have the judge tell your parents to go back to the “old county where the criminals belong” - as he agreed with the stereotype that successful businessman of our ethnic backdrop could only get there by organized crime, or have girls refuse to date you because their parents said you’re part of the mob).
"Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."

I'm quite sure that people are aware of that.
But I think that given current events, taking some time to discuss the terminology we use isn't a bad idea.
And I'm genuinely curious which terms you think are more violent than lynch. Most of the ones being suggested are definitely less violent, and a couple are about equal.

You don’t need to link current events as I am aware of them...but they’ve also been events that, sadly, aren’t just current but been an issue for much of the time we’ve been playing. There may be more of a boiling point right now but they’re not new. Hell, part of my duties as an investigator meant seeing far too much of the horrors people inflict along those lines. I think we almost give the asses that perform such actions the glory they want by shying from it. Use the Mel Brooks method: make it a pointless game term and they lose some of their ability to evoke fear with it.
I think “slain” and similar are more violent sounding (“lynch” even has non-deadly uses in the arenas of politics, for example).
Frankly, this is also a case where I’m starting to feel this is less a discussion and more a case where folks are supposed to stay silent if they don’t agree with Gira’s concern which maybe should have been better stated in the thread opening.

I don't know what gave you that idea. Your posts have come across as more aggressive than anyone else in the thread.
