I would actually say get the fantastic four cosmic clash starter set. Gets u two maps. And two solid characters in silver surfer and Dr. Doom. Plus there's a bunch of pogs (bystander) to help with latveria teams. It's only 35 dollars btw
I am ashamed that I didn't recommend this myself. There has never been a better entry-level product for HeroClix than the Cosmic Clash Starter. Hell, I bought two of 'em.
This whole thread is an awesome read. as the friend that ran the knull, just want to say that, in my defense, I hadnt played in a couple years and wanted to see what the new tent pole could do.
Also, in case anyone is interested, Jackso has come a long way. maybe its that I suck, but he beats me about 50/50 now (I've been playing since before there were cards). Very solid player and if you guys come across him in the future, watch yo backs.
Aww...jeez... I hit Jason a lot harder than that.... his name was Jason, right?
I forgot to check this thread and missed these last posts.
Joker, glad to hear jaskco is giving you some good games. That's what its all about. I'd been wondering how he's gotten along since the last time I checked this.
Not sure if this helps, but looking at your brick contents, you've got a solid chunk of the Frightful Four figures, which is a pretty decent theme.
Start with Wizard and any other three at 75 (I'd probably default to Punisher@75, Medusa, and oh let's say Klaw), then use Wizard's trait to swap as needed.
There are 13 Frightful Four pieces in the F4 set, each with a 75-point line. You put 4 of them on your starting force (one being Wizard) then put the other 9 on your sideline for Wizard's trait--nine being the limit for Sideline figures in a 300-point game. Swapping's simpler than for Sue's similar effect on Fantastic Four teams: all the Frightful people share the same point cost, so you can swap them 1-for-1, no pesky math required.
You don't have to collect them all, of course, though I think the SR Super-Skrull is considered essential for the theme. If he's a little costly (and even if he's not) I'd recommend U She-Thing as the best among several great close-combat options, especially with Medusa on the board (of the shared Frightful traits, I'd say hers is the most directly useful). Carnage from the SVAC Fast Forces also has the keyword.
But you've got Wizard, who's key to the whole thing, and you've got the keyword's Prime figure, so that's a great start!
So many great responses. Even a friend popping in to compliment skills. Your guys team designs really kicked me off into having playable teams. I appreciate all your help! Excited for house of x
The frightful four team is a new idea I had played with once! I will definitely look at messing with it again!!
So, if you're running 300 points, you've got both Captain Britain and Juggernaut/Binary, and Sage [#008]
That's 295, affords you a Willpower Tk'er with leadership and outwit, Sage brings a lot of support for her 40, which you need- captain britain is your alpha striker, the goal is picking an opponent as your biggest threat, using her BCF and taking the -2 to lower their stats, then finishing them with either juggernauts super charge [you can pick up an object on the way with his super strength, and knock them back if they somehow survive!].
Or if you run binary, it's a little riskier for CB to go first, so you can Hypersonic her in for 4 and retreat, but leave her close enough so if she doesnt need her Probability control, it's there for CB so she can soften another target , effectively taking two good figures off their top dials, or one tentpole down a chunk AND -2 on their dial. Then if binary/juggernaut are within 3 squares of CB at your start, her leadership can reach out and keep your heavy hitter swinging.
Binarys Hss and range (and very stable, lengthy dial!) Keeps her viable all the way down, and dont forget her poison can trigger the Pulsewave bomb, it just needs a KO.
Juggernaut, on the other hand, being able to reduce penetrating, and having a STELLAR top dial, able to.dish out 7 damage from 13 or more squares away for his initial whomping (dont forget you can tk him to line up, and he ignores hindering and destroys blocking!) Plus the longevity of colossal stamina + steal energy (and possible leadership)
If Captain Britain isnt up your alley, you could swap for Storm, her special giving her up to 6 damage combined with her range and mobility keeps sage moving with you, and with her leadership, you could potentially keep giving lightning rod tokens, only ones not given *this turn* go away, and this puts sage closer for her outwit, just keep her in stealth!
This gives you several support effects to learn, and one tentpole with backup, so as to not overwhelm you since you're new. Practice practice practice!
I miss? PC it. You hit? PC it. I hit? I can do better, PC anyways. You miss? I DIDN'T SEE SNAKE EYES, PC IT!
Never be afraid to take a minute and check your options on characters! Sometimes you may find you're overlooking a power you just dont normally use on a character as you get into the flow of battle and forget who has what. Experimentation isn't glorious all the time, but the results are! Especially as a new player into a well established game, pick up those cards, check those dials even if its every action. Also note that some powers work beautifully together- captain Britain's bcf special still triggers her exploit weakness, and bcf's minimum roll is one less than her printed damage- so two gets through at the lowest on anyone who cant reduce penetrating, and she gets to charge over character and terrain as she flies, plus she can even bring someone along at the cost of a square of movement, so if you're already close... and you dont need to put them adjacent to the enemy, you can keep your support with you, they can be behind her for some safety. Also while a character cant act after being carried, say Sage heals CB with xmen team ability- she can still be carried afterwords, and use her outwit too if she has it, after the charge and attack is done.
So many options!
It can be daunting, I hope your awesome.friends are giving you all the help you need, and please feel free to.check the backpages of the tactics and rules forums, theres SOOOOO much to learn!
