Always love a good Squabbler set. Super excited to see what you'll be doing here. Looks like a great set list. I'm working on a Blade set list myself and I was a little worried there would be a ton of overlap when I first saw the thread. Pleasantly surprised to see it's not. There's so much space to play on the horror side of Marvel, I hope we keep getting monster themed sets more.
I'm particularly excited to see your Hydra DOA characters. I love a good Hydra swarm. I was disappointed that the Hellstrum prime in Spirits of Vengeance wasn't a villain version with the Hydra and Masters of Evil keywords from the early 2010's when he teamed up with with Sin and the Hydra DOA to track down the hammers from Fear Itself. As also disappointed Hellstrum wasn't on his demon steeds, but that's neither here nor there.
Legacy cards are on point. Umar is really fun. Glad to see a few Howling Commandos and I'm loving that you included the SHIELD kw and TA on them. I'm always surprised when we don't get more of them. I thought War Wolf was a shew in for WoV with all the were wolves. It is a little curious that neither has any range to go with that TA. I thought at least Frankenstein had a big gun in that series. Maybe I'm missing remembering. Your research is top notch and I should know not to question you by now.
Elsa is a lot of fun. I feel I was summed to this thread when you gave her the Battleworld: Other keyword. Such a great series. I think that's when I really started to like her, even more than Nextwave. Not sure if you were going for that Marvel Zombies series specifically or just a general Elsa, but awesome job if you were. The valley of the damned trait in particular fits very nicely.
Can't wait to see what you do with Knuckles O'Shaugnessy, but am sad that G-Man didn't make the cut. I always thought he would make a great prime for a Frank Drake sculpt.
I'm enjoying the music call outs and the links. You bring a lot of fun to these sets.
Hey, look - it's pretty much exactly what I wanted out of a legacy card for this dial (which I thought was guaranteed for the Wheels of Vengeance set). Switching up his Special Attack power to support close combat fits better with his new Plasticity and Steal Energy toolset than the original's weird split between close and range options. The addition of the Pilot trait makes all the thematic sense in the world. This update does one thing well instead of two things mediocre, and as someone who perpetually got based and eaten down while trying to use the character, I appreciate this version.
That is extremely high praise indeed, friend! Thank you so much for it!
Those were exactly my intentions-- to maximize what was great about the dial. If you're playing SoVRH at full points, you're going to be in the thick of things if you see those flame web clicks. Felt like it made more sense to make him a close-range beatstick like wov056 Vengeance turned out to be.
Now I'm trying to think what'd be the best way to use SoVRH at full points in a modern game. I could see sticking Chthon on him and pairing him with Prime Lilith, so all of his stats would be stronger and Lilith could continually heal him to offset Chthon's effects. One of my venues would probably let me shave 25% off his cost, so that might present more options too. What's the best luck you've had with him?

Let's Go!!!
WHOA. You've got a Blade set coming? Consider me subscribed and seated front row center with a bag of popcorn! Stoked af to see what you do with that!
Huge thanks for the kind words about my Legacy Cards! Truth be told, I wasn't planning on any when I started the set, but I realized that A) every modern set has them now and B) they'd be a great opportunity to cover ground the main dials wouldn't (which got me wondering if that's also Wizkids' approach, but I'm getting off track).
Your research is better than mine! I've never read the new Howling Commandoes, but it's on my reading list! I did, however, consult a few wikis for each dial before working, and you're right-- Frank does have a big gun... but he also has a huge chain-flail attachment. I thought that would help differentiate him from what I'd do with Franken-Castle.
Haha I'm also very tickled that you caught the Battleworld keyword on Elsa, because the Legacy Card is 1,000% based on Battleworlds: Marvel Zombies! God, what a great read. I agree, it really is a coming out moment for her as a leading lady. It's beginning to be strange that she isn't starring in a solo book now, especially after the WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Disney+ special.
Now I'm just hoping my Hydra DOA characters don't disappoint! I'll warn you-- I used the art from their Fear Itself appearances, but went with the 90s version of the team as they appeared in Nightstalkers.
That's a fun point about G-Man! I don't have a rare prime, so I've added him there, and I've officially added LostGaladorian's suggestion of Mr. Smile & Mr. Sulk to the LE section, along with one more.
Starting Monday, I'm going to be posting 2+ dials daily, so this is likely going to be the best chance to talk more about the set's overall goals.
Wheels of Vengeance Rides Again seeks to dial all of Marvel's major horror characters who weren't covered in the official Wheels of Vengeance set, with a few exceptions. You've gotta have Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, and Blade in there, am I right? As noted, I also included a few characters from WoV who I thought deserved more befitting dials, particularly Simon Garth, Vengeance, and Nightmare.
The set's main four themes are Tomb of Dracula characters (the 1970s run that lasted 70 issues and was considered Marvel's then-best horror comic), the Midnight Sons of the 90s (the longest-lasting incarnation of the team), Doctor Strange characters (as he led the 90s Midnight Sons), and Ghost Rider's 90s villains (as the 90s volume was the longest, most successful and acclaimed run ever enjoyed by a Ghost Rider).
I'm resurrecting some key ideas from WoV including Fire Smoke terrain markers and Pilot. As the vehicle pieces slowly roll out, you'll notice that I attempted to use generic keywords that weren't used in WoV. That's why Legacy Spirit of Vengeance Red Hulk interacts with Politician & Soldier over Monster & Mystical.
Our chase themes are primarily from A) the Hearts of Darkness graphic novels, which saw the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider team up with Wolverine and the Punisher, and B) Ghost Rider (2022)'s Death Race to Devil's Peak, which was a motorcycle race involving a ton of random Marvel characters (haha bet the chases looked weird af before reading that, huh?). I'm keeping the ultra-chase secret, but I've got a feeling it will amuse.
A big part of the set's 90s' focus is because, again, it was the heydey for Marvel horror, with a flotilla of titles birthed from the meteoric success of Ghost Rider (1990), all of which shared a central lore and continuity. Later horror comics of the 90s would be grandfathered into the fold, with their stories appearing in Midnight Sons Unlimited, oddly an anthology comic rather than an ongoing team series.
Since then, Marvel horror hasn't been as consistent, seemingly scattered across multiple, disparate titles and without unified goals. One shots and mini-series are more common than ongoing titles, but that thankfully seems to be changing in the wake of Blood Hunt. The success of Ghost Rider (2022) has spawned two spin-off titles, Hellverine and Spirits of Vengeance, and there is now an ongoing Werewolf by Night title.
lol long way of saying I haven't read as much of the newer stuff as I'd like! Still, the future is bright!
No luck at all. I didn't get him initially, but picked him up from the WK store several years after his release. After a few attempts at running him (which let to complete disasters each time; he was consistently a dud as an attacker and a point-retainer, even with equipment) and seeing he wasn't on the Legacy list, I gave a great bargain to a player at my venue who likes miniature motorbikes.

Voodoo: Other friendly characters whose name contains "Zombie" or "Zuvembie," who have the Zombie Horde or Z-Virus keyword, or who can generate Grave markers have Sidestep. If they already have Sidestep, when they use it, they may move up to 3 spaces instead of 2.
I really like how Zombie works with anyone who is a zombie, even though WK hasn't been able to land on 1 keyword. Hopefully they will now that we have Zombie Horde. He even works with the Black Lanterns, which is awesome. I also like his lower than average speed values, although with his side step he can still get you from 5 squares away. Those Zombies can sneak right up on you just when you thought you were safe.
Strange is fun. I like the point cost and the limited PaP. Clicks 3 and 4 seem odd at first glance, but the trait really helps smooth out that damage power placement. Feels like Strange is picking the right spell for the situation.

Freewheel Burning: Improved Movement: Ignored Elevated and characters. Under My Wheels: When Ghost Rider makes a move action, after resolutions, you may place up to 4 Fire Smoke terrain markers in spaces he moved though. At the beginning of your next turn (even if this is lost), deal 1 damage to each character occupying that marker, then remove the marker.

Tomb of Dracula: This character modifies attack & damage by +1 when attacking characters who can use Steal Energy or who have the Vampire Brood keyword. At Dawn They Sleep: Rachel Van Helsing modifies her attack by +1 when she attacks characters with the Monster keyword who have 2 Action Tokens.
I would definitely play that Knuckles. He looks like a blast. I really wish we had a Spirits of Vengeance keyword to give all these Riders a proper team up
Do you mean Quincy Harker, the wheelchair-using vampire hunter from the Tomb of Dracula comic series? Or do you actually mean Quincy Morris, the Texan who died fighting Dracula at the end of the original novel, for whom Quincy Harker is named?

Huge thanks for the kind words and feedback, friend! I really appreciate it. Happy to hear these dials seem to be working so far! You make an excellent point about how strong that Sidestep is on The Zombie. Possibly too strong, considering his universal effect. I’ve updated it and sent you some rep. My thanks!
Definitely hear you about wanting a shared keyword for Spirits of Vengeance. I’m honestly a little surprised that we didn’t get one in Wheels of Vengeance, considering how many Ghost Rider characters would qualify for it without necessarily having the GR name. I do like the “Spirit of Vengeance” shared trait a few of them got, though.

Good choice either way...
Amazing catch, my friend, thank you! Sending some rep your way.
Haha can you tell that I’ve read Dracula more times than Tomb of Dracula? Because I meant the wheelchair-bound Quincy Harker. That said, I’d LOVE to do a Dracula set someday…

That's what I thought and we are WAY overdue for Quincy...and a Rachel too. (That LE Vampire Minion was never good enough)
Having said that, I'd sell an organ to buy an Iconix set based on the Stoker novel. Drac, his brides, Renfield, the Harkers, Seward, Holmwood and Quincy...

Fully agree with all of that. I'd buy the hell out of Dracula Iconix!
If you're interested, I did a Universal Monsters set last year that might scratch that itch. It follows the movies rather than the books, but it might suffice until the day WK plausibly releases a Dracula set.
Hey, if Sherlock Holmes randomly got an Iconix, Dracula should be a shoe-in!

That's the beauty of the Iconix line...almost anything is possible!
We now return to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.
