Beowulf - That was PG-13? I was watching it with my wife and I told her that if I saw it in the theater when I was 13 my mouth would be agape the whole time with Angelina Jolie. Then toward the end when she was playing with the sword. Yowza!
Citizen Kane - This is my first time seeing it as an adult. It makes a lot more sense. I didn't get the movie when I saw it when I was under 10 years old.

Regarding Beowulf, the movie studios can get away with A LOT more due to it being Animated violence and Animated sex scenes. I guess the motion picture association considers all animation to be "Fantasy" so it's not graded as harshly as if it were live actors. Had it been actual people, that movie would have been a hard R.

Saw it in IMAX today with my son and my buddy. I never saw the third movie, and I cannot remember if I saw the second. I know I saw the first, but haven't seen it probably since it first came out.
Anyway, this was a pretty good movie for what it was. Lots of cool gadgets, very 'Bondesque'.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
I watched "Twelve Chairs", an early Mel Brooks movie last night. It was not good. It didn't have very much of his humor in it. I don't know if that was because it's early in his career, and he hadn't found his style yet, or if it's because it was based on a true story, and trying to follow that story restricted what he could do.
Act of Valor. Got sneak peek passes for a screening last night. The acting was about what I expected, maybe just slightly better, but if so, then it would be juuuust barely. But what can you expect when a movie casts actual active duty soldiers? In any case, the whole movie felt like I was watching one of the new MW type games. The action was plentiful and fast paced. Lots of bullets. Lots of explosions. About what you would expect from a typical action flick, but this one had a stronger than usual patriotic undertone, of course.
The acting won't win any oscars. The 'special' effects (or maybe that is what combat actually looks like) were good.
I'd give it a solid 7/10. If you're in need of an explosion fix or if you really need some way of showing that you support the troops, then this movie is for you. If you are looking for a deep plot/story or oscar caliber acting then move along.
Watched Midnight in Paris last night... did not enjoy that experience.
Be wary.
It's not for everyone, I'll give you that.
Was there something that set it over the edge for you?

I'm convinced JJ Abrams is into remaking classic movies.
Cloverfield = Godzilla.
Super 8 = ET/Close Encounters
I'm curious to see what movie his next project updates.

It was boring. It was obvious. And it still tried to maintain an air of pretentiousness. The awful nature of Inez and her parents was simply beyond the scope of reason for me. They were just lame villains with no motivations other than to be awful.
Looked great though.
