I am cheap too, but there are certain things I think are worth it to not go all cheap-o on.
Musical instruments, TVs, my mattress, the piece of furniture I will use the most, beer and whiskey.
I am not suggesting to get the most expensive stuff. Just don't get the bottom of the line stuff.
In this case it will be something that I envision using on car trips where I am not driving. I am going to get a Shredneck Z Bass for such situations. Since I am usually the driver, this won't happen very often. However, this summer I think I will travel the roads with my truck driving uncle, and think it will be a great time to practice. Hence, small footprint and small pricepoint are the higher priority. If I saw it as something that I would use with great frequency, I would probably go for the more expensive items (a higher quality bass and a higher quality amp).
Right now I play an Ibanez SR300 that I got on sale for $200. It's not a $1500 bass, but I think it sounds awesome, I love the weight, the neck is smooth as butter, and I like the design. I've played more expensive basses, and they just don't feel as "right" to me.
Was going to watch Life Partners on Netflix but when I put life into the search bar I was that Lifeguard was on Netflix and I love K-Bell and she loves me too http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...w/KBell057.jpg
