Gave it a shot today. Played with someone (not kzcmzd whom I'd hoped to meet) just to get the hang of things.
First he tells me I have to place standard objects >3 away from the start Area. Fine, whatever, I don't say anything because he's graciously showing me how the interface works. I even apologize.
After that, he tells me I can't use Hawkman/Atom to carry both a teammate and an object. Again I just let it slide. I suck it up and apologize again, since it's not a game breaker.
Then he tries to make a Duo attack against my Invulnerable character and before he rolls, I remind him as a friendly gesture that he can't use Psychic Blast with Duo. He asks where it says that and I point out the difference between a Ranged Combat Attack and a Ranged Combat Action. He then sends a snarky "Welcome to HCOL," disconnects from the game, and goes offline on Hamachi (I can only presume I was blocked).
Needless to say, not the best experience. I like the idea of HCOL and it's a really cool program, but from now on I may only use it from time to time to play scheduled games with people I know.

Just as in real life it can be a pain to play with someone who doesn't know the rules.
I played with a guy once who quit after I KOed one of his least costly figs. He got frustrated because he was still playing by like Indy rules in a post Avengers game.

Follow me on Twitter @PopofHeroes
get_1: I'll be around for a game this evening (my usual times to go looking are at 8 EST and 11-11:30 EST). I'm a veteran player and know the rules, but I like to play 'friendly' games with fun-oriented teams, so leave the Protecteds and Skrull Ms. Marvels out of it and we'll have a good time.
Also, you can PM me the Hamachi handle of the individual who was unfriendly to you and I'll make a note of it.
Captain Nifty: you still on Hamachi? My apologies if I booted you from any rooms, I thought you were inactive. I'll make room for you if you're back.

Bummer! Sorry about the miscommunication get1. Had a family thing to do. I'm available either later tonight or tomorrow before or after the Lakers kick the Celtics butts (Go Lakers!).

I have just been contacted by Justin Ziran, who would like to talk about HCOL (I don't know yet in what capacity).
Pessimistically, this project is being torpedoed.
Optimistically, perhaps they want to release an online product.
Needless to say, I hope HCOL survives, but if they ask me to not distribute the program, that's all she wrote. I'm a fan of the game first and foremost, and their wishes regarding HCOL are pretty much my command. My only hope is that there can be some way, shape or form for us to play Heroclix with long distance buddies, whether through a fan effort or official release.

Justin tells me he's looking into the legal issues (trademark, copyright, licensor) that are involved here.
My guess: possible outcomes range from as straightforward as adding (TM) brandings to character names, or as severe as asking me to discontinue hosting the program.
In any case, I know Justin is a friendly face on this and is basically putting in some time to see what can be done before other, less-understanding types start poking around.

I've released an update with the latest rules & regs handed down (including today's ATA information), as well as the latest sets/previews and a new fan-made custom map!
I also alphabetized the Feats so they aren't such a pain anymore.

Please don't take this away from me!! It's the only way I can play heroclix anymore with no game store in town anymore. I still buy at least one case every set to collect them. C'mon Justin, help a brother out man!!

as far as legal issues go, how would Heroclix online be any different then HCRealms? Both have a units section of some kind that shows Wizkids copyrighted material and neither is using it to make any money.

awesome, this has been something I have been wanting done for a long time.
I've been trying to create a custom large figure (2x2), but whenever I try to load a set containing large figures with more than 12 clicks in the custom figure tool, the set shows up as empty. Is there any way to do what I'm trying to do?

Dials exceeding 11 clicks cannot be entered directly, but there's a workaround I found - instead, break them down into pieces. Look at how I handled the Anti-Monitor if you want to see how it's done.
