I couldn't hear much difference at all when I compared them for Originals vs Covers a while back.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Hey, that (what Cap Beyo said) reminds me...that Goldi-Blox company had a SuperBowl ad. However, they did NOT use a Beastie Boys song, they used a Quiet Riot song.
I wonder if that means the court favored the Beastie Boys, or if there was a "don't go forward with this until the court decides" kinda thing.
The Girl clued me in to this.
I was thinking similar things.
I also like the Beastie Boys one better despite liking the Slade/QR song better in the first place.
I was disappointed when the girls ran through the pageant and did not tear stuff down. I was further disappointed when the detonator merely launched the toys into space instead of exploding them.
I've got to agree with Char on this one even though it pains me.
Interestingly, after QR had a hit with the song, Slade released the album "Get yer hands off my power supply" featuring "Run Runaway" (one of the all-time Haven Top 100) which seemed to depart from their Glam Rock background as much as "My Oh, My" off the same album.
But then QR released "Mama Weer All Crazy", another cover of a Slade song, and kicked that one out of the park as well. As much as I love Slade, I must admit that BOTH QR versions kick the crud out of the originals.

The voting in my Original vs Cover match went heavily toward Slade.

The music polls on the realms tend to be dominated by metal haters.

Do something original, humans.
The Realms tend to be dominated by metal lovers, if those What are you Listening to Now threads are any indications.
As far as I was concerned, I didn't hear anything in the Quiet Riot version that made it seem like they put their own mark on the song. It still sounded good, but I could not see where they made it sound better then Slade's version. It was like that remake of Psycho that was made a few years back where the director just did exactly the same thing Hitchcock did. No originality.

Carlos Cavazo's guitar work was quite a departure from Slade's version, and the whole beginning is completely different.
The only difference I'm really hearing is perhaps a cleaner production on the Q.R. version.

Personally, when the metal ditched the blues base that Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple thrived on, I stopped getting excited about it. There's still a lot to like about metal I like but there's an awful lot I don't like.

Really, never got the love, especially over the metal bands that preceded them.
I wasn't pointing fingers or anything. I, myself, have often been the victim of people saying, "You're just doing that because it's cool/everyone is doing it." when I know otherwise and there's just about no way to prove it.
Eh.
I know in my head how the real history went and that's all that matters to me in the end.
