Does anyone here know how much one of those doggie shock collar's cost? Or more importantly if they are even effective. Since my wife and I have moved back in with her parents until we figure out where I am going to grad school we have had to deal with her parents two worthless ### barking dogs. Now, I am about a week away from beating one of those ####ers to death with a shovel. And I would really do it too. With a smile on my face. Now, in an attempt at preventing this fate for the dogs and someone calling animal control and putting me jail for a few days I have decided to look into these collars.
Also, does anyone have any other advice other than kill these dogs. They wouldn't be bad dogs but they were neglected. They weren't mistreated just neglected. I don't know why they got them in the first place. I have never seen anyone other than myself pet these animals. They were just never taught to mind. But, the only interaction I see is when they are fed and let outside. Other than that the pets and the owners have no interaction.
I have already told Liza I would rather sleep in my car than deal with this situation. So, please help me.

Surprisingly, I have found that any and all animal issues can typically be solved by the liberal application of those "Snap Pop" firework devices. Dogs tend to get scared by loud noises. I've used them for training with my parents' dogs and they tend to be great negative reinforcement. Mixing in some treat rewards when the dogs behave well will also help.
Just remember - in order to have a dog obey you, you MUST be the alpha in its eyes. No respect = no obedience. And keep in mind that they are animals, not people. Too much pampering can be just as harmful as neglect. Either way, when you want something from them, be firm. Once they see that "d-roc = leader of the pack" they will shut up when you tell them to.
I agree about training and making sure that they respect you. My dog is very good. But, I have had him since he was about 5 months old. He is great and he can shake hands, sit, roll over, and play dead. All things that I have taught him using the same type of motivation you described. He is very affectionate and loving. But, the other two are two or three years old and it is harder to train an older dog that has never been disciplined. The snap pop idea is good though and I might give it a try.
400 pts. 4 actions. All figures must have regen. radiation leak bfc is not allowed for this tournament.

Something other than the Snap Pops is to have aluminum cans with about 4-5 pennies inside. Whenever they are barking, shake the cans. With my previous dog, you would of thought we kept Coke in business; 2-3 cans per room, always within reach.
I don't recommend the Snap Pops, as my current dog is now freaked out by thunder due to the loud noises.
I did the bark collars for years, and while they are effective, I have only found (1) good one. And the company's customer service was the worst ever, so they went out of business. The collars that work off of vocal cord vibration would activate too easily, even sometimes if they "bumped" anything. The one I liked had a microphone receiver, and would start out with a "tone" then several levels of increasing "shock" to get the dogs attention. They worked, but were expensive and due to the electrical components, would easily break, and (thanks to my dogs) would wear out batteries about every 2-3 weeks. Use the coke cans...

You are a real buzz kill, Zack. I really wanted to see one of those dogs do a back flip when they got shocked.

Well I can loan you mine. It has settings for tone and various shocks. But it is remote controlled. Catch the dog doing the bad behavior and press a button. A "training" collar instead of a "bark" collar. It works, and it work very well on Level 7.

The trainer at the obedience school i took my dog to used the pennies in a can. Worked great.
The snap pops orignally came about when I was trying to walk my parents' overweight Lab/Chow mix. He would walk for about half a mile and then refuse to go anywhere else except towards the house. The application of the Snap Pops resulted in a 3 mile walk. And he was 9 years old at the time.

Animal cruelty at it's finest. The icing on the cake would have been if the poor fat bastard had a heart attack while you were walking him.
No event at Titans on 4-21 due to Atlanta Comics Expo.

Who all is going to the Atlanta Comics expo? I know Don and Justin will be there. I for one am pretty excited about the event. For some reason when I found out it was downtown I became much more excited. Plus, it seems like there might be some fun things to do after hours as well.
