oh yeah, there got to be a way to make them work efficiantly. if i remember correctly, level up doesn't let UI have its effect right? that means lucius would suffer the same problem.
Yep..they MUST be Special Summoned by the effect of their previous LV to get their effects, like Ultimate Insect.
I doubt it'd ever be "splashed" at all...1000 ATK IS pretty bad for attacking most of the time...especially if you want to pull off its effect of Levelling up as well...
I would have to disagree. Although your thoughts are highly regarded on this site, it's an opinion, yours.
1000 atk, isn't bad, not really great either but MS LV2 has even less atk, and with Crossout going to 1, I believe you will see more of it. Yeah it usually lasts only a turn or 2,(if your lucky) but if I can get rid of your MoF, MJ, Treeborn, Sangan, it's worth it. Same goes for Lucious.
I look at Dark Lucious LV4 as a rebornable Ha Des. A mini me if you will.;) I probably won't be running the other LV cards because it has to last through your opponents turn to LV up!

MS LV2 might have a lower ATK, but that doen't really matter when it is used for it's primary role of destroying facedown monster cards without them getting their flip effect.
There's no damage calculation, so even if the monster had a defence of 2600-2700(Big Shield Gardna, Defender) they would be destroyed.
Some flip monsters that are commonly used that would survive Lucious.
Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive
Des Koala
Gravekeeper's Spy
Stealth Bird
If Waboku is activated, MS LV2 still destroys facedown monsters, Lucious destroys none.
If you're facing a deck using gravity bind or LLAB, MS LV2 can still attack, Lucious LV4 can not.
As stated, Mystic Swordsman LV2 has more advantages over Lucius, despite its lower ATK.
Sure things like Sangan may still work, but that's probably the only card used that would work and that's only assuming that it's in face-down Defense Position which is actually not done a lot these days. And at least with Swordsman, you won't be taken by surprise if the opponent happens to be using some higher DEF monsters like Gravekeeper's Spy.
Wow... these new fiends look interesting, if not all completely useful. I might try that "Blast Devil," as it fits well with a strategy I've been trying to accomplish but keep forgetting in the heat of battle: always chaining Call of the Haunted to something else so the summoned monster can't be destroyed in response by TT and the like. Usually it involves me playing MST, asking for my opponent to chain, and if they don't (or even if they do), chaining Call. But I keep forgetting to do just that and starting a new chain with Call!
.... Yeah, that doesn't really have anything to do with fiends except the connection with Blast Devil, but it is something to think about.
And, in another topic entirely(almost), for a while there I was using Possessed Dark Soul as a main-deck card. I think this was during the goat-control era, where I was able to steal a horde of goats almost at will. And once, I wound up playing a fire deck that removed a bunch of cards straight from the deck from play in order to turn Gren Maju Da Eiza into a huge beast. By the time my opponent had summonned it, I had already summonned two Necrofears, but his RFG pile had about 15 cards! I only survived that because of my Kuriboh. And then I topdecked into Possessed Dark Soul for game. It was rather fun, actually, since noone seemed to know what the Dark Soul did and those who did just laughed when I summonned it. So, yeah... random tech can be really useful at times.
Too bad, these days, there's not a lot of useful monsters that are Level 3 or lower thay used a lot in Decks (Injection Fairy Lily was one of the only ones and that's not used as much).
Gren Maju is mainly good in just basic removal Decks most of the time. Otherwise, I fina Chaos Necromancer to be better (if just thrown into other Decks)
I kind of noticed the lack of decent Level three and lower monsters to steal. But, you know, it was fun to steal things in groups of four. Just a point on how random tech can help change things for the better, dependant upon the metagame. With TER banned, possessed dark soul really has nothing useful to take, yes.
I miss TER very much. Who'd have thought... a fusion being banned. I was quite surprised.
...
You know, it occurs to me that I haven't seen any other monster with a Possessed Dark Soul-like effect. Mostly you get monsters where, to control other monsters, you need to keep a monster on the field... And then there is Dark Necrofear, with her "steal things after death" effect... maybe efficient and effective monster stealing is the unique fiend thing?
Just kinda spouting random stuff at this point, though.
But you always point out the truth.
Hmm.... Lucious LV 4, huh? I guess I'll give it a try. If it works, it works. Otherwise, I guess I'll stick with the Dark Ruler for my effect negation.
...
In other news, I went to my first tournament in the newest format today, and it was rather... interesting, what with the utter lack of people using frogs for some reason... I managed to take first with my Fiend deck, but the last round involved a warrior swarm deck of some variety. The only reason I was able to win was because of Kuriboh buying me time and my opponent's zeal for using Lily's effect. I think I had to inflict actual damage once, while my opponent was rather reckless with his LP.

Anyone else have an interesting esperience with the month early new format?

Well, like Vampire Lord (only took a MUCH shorter time to realize), people realized that Frog isn't NEARLY as great as it was cracked up to be (I was laughing at people calling it "the next Sinister Serpent") so it hasn't seen nearly as much use in a lot of Decks.
And, 2400 LP for taking control of 3 monsters is MUCH better handling than 6000 LP for upping a monster's ATK on 3 different occassions.
Lucius would be ok if it weren't for the "can-only-get-effect-if-Special-Summoned-by-previous-LV" effect...that is what is REALLY gonna hold it back from seeing much use...like how Antique Gear Beast and Golem, despite their otherwise good effects, are not used a lot JUST because of not being able to be Special Summoned.
