The past three major WK events prior to this (2013 Worlds, 2014 Nationals, and 2014 Worlds) all had the same format: Two rounds of Swiss to top 16 then single elimination thereafter. This includes Team Worlds last year and Golden Age worlds the previous year.
Thank you for the update. So then it was going to be different, but they decided to go ahead and use the same format they've been using for the last 3 years. It's possible that the format listing for this year may have been in error.

LOL @ "it's possible."
From what I've gathered with this thread and my experience over the weekend, plus the experience of playing Clix for 3+ years, error is the standard operating procedure at Wizkids.

Mistakes are always made. Until someone builds perfect robots that can take over the tasks, human error will always be a problem.
I mean, I'm sure none of us here in this thread have made mistakes before, but other than that, human error is a real thing.
There are things the company can do better (in some cases much better, and I agree some things are problems) but putting these shows on is a ton of work for everyone involved.
Come play at Games & Stuff in Glen Burnie, MD! Fridays at 6:30 pm!
Last year at Worlds we had an issue where I delegated the rack/stack in the Top 32. The guy who did it screwed up and left out two players who rightfully should have been in the Top 32. Instead of bumping two guys who spent all night getting ready to play I decided to let the previously selected 32 play and just add the wrongfully omitted players to the tournament as well. That resulted in a Top 34 rather than a 32.

I was at GenCon the last 2 years and I thought everything went fine at those events. I had a good time.
Thank you. I did take a maybe 20-30 minute lunch break, so I possibly could've fit five, but I doubt it. People would be lined up for BRs and not even have someone acknowledge them for over 30 minutes at a time. It's ####ed up is what it is, and I appreciate someone else recognizing that. I didn't know if everyone was going to jump down my throat or something.
I'm not going to jump down your throat but I got more than 4 in and never waited to be acknowledge to play. The beginning is like you said, waiting, but once it started up, things went incredibly smoothly. And I took a few breaks between matches. But once it got started, the only waiting being done was because of a line of people, you may have to wait behind. Of course, this was on Saturday, so maybe you were referring to Sunday, which I only played one battle royale because I was in the ZA tournament.

Truth! Saturday, after it got rolling, I made it into 5 battle royales, took an hour lunch with my wife, took another 30 min break to watch the sealed qualifiers, and still left before the last battle royale took place. The beginning of the day was pretty terrible but after that, I had a blast and had no issues with table space or getting into a BR
Did anyone venture into Baltimore and get robbed. I remember after the ROC in Atlanta we had a guy in robbed. I personally contributed that to Brian Rupp personally patrolling the streets during the nights at Worlds. I don't think he patrolled at nationals this year.

Is this a joke? Some HeroClix player is actually playing superhero in real life?
Also, I still don't get the HUGE deal. People get mugged, and in big cities, the likelihood only grows.
I was mugged in Paris when I was in ninth grade. People get mugged in every city, all the time.
I don't go to events now with t-shirts saying "#### PARIS" and whatnot, constructing my whole persona based around hating a city because I was robbed while in that city.
I had lots of fun at the event! Didnt pre-reg, and showed up about 8 people too late for 10 am signups.
Pulled okay but not great. ended up playing Blue Devil/Xanadu/Vibe.
Went 1-3 Match ups could have been better for me. Superman/police officer first round, I was curb stomped. Map choice was rough, opposite side of the gardens.
Then Validus and a guard. I got rid of the guard and got some clicks on validus but he got through my mystics with 4 free action pulse waves in a row.
3rd match was heavy in my favor. played against a super nice guy playing mazzahs/cosmic boy So I was able to avoid his mystics while he was not. pushed xanadu for outwit and got a clean hit in on mazzahs. was over from there.
4th match was against the guy I rode 7 hours with. Hard to take it too serious.
Very Fun battle royals, won me an animal man.
Got to meet some awesome people.
Went to Chillis with some quality players from the west.
Apologies for falling asleep at the table...

I really just don't get all of this.
It's not a joke. He actually patrolled the streets of Indy while the nerds were sound asleep in their hotel rooms.
The format for nationals, and the rules for qualifiers were posted on wizkidseventsystem.com, and are still there to be seen.
Talking to a judge from the event, the only thing they changed from the announced format was a cut to the top 16 instead of the top 8 as originally posted.
So to clear up some misconceptions...
Players who went undefeated at EACH qualifier made the 32 for nationals.
Players who qualified from WKO who showed up were in the 32.
The rest of the 32 were filled out with the players who had the best combined record from both qualifiers (this is what judges at the event were saying to people who dropped after only one loss)
After the 2(?) Swiss rounds played by the top 32, they cut to the top 16, who then played single elimination.

No. They said in the description of the event that they would play a number of rounds until there were two or less undefeated. They changed that to four. They also listed they would take up to 16 people from each qualifier. If they worded it different somewhere else then they need to get that crap figured out. It definitely implied thay one could play in one event, go three and one and still have a shot at getting in.
