He is concerned about the fact that he spent extra money to earn a bye into the finals, but the fact that everyone gets into the finals means his bye is functionally worthless. Especially if he spent more on the additional product than the price of the 2 boosters for the finals.
Exactly.
It's just annoying that the judge encourages players to buy extra product for the point, when those people already have 15 point, and have no possibility of getting enough to be in the top 2. It's sleezy.
If venues did the suggested format, there would be no issues.
So based on texts with Ross, he would only be happy if we take less people into the finals.
Based on that want, he wants me to change the format of AvX now (before Month 3 starts) to take *less* people from sealed into the finals.
The only way it would work is if the finals are 4 people single elimination. If that's the case, only the top player would earn a bye (sorry Dom) and 3 players from sealed would advance.
This is what Ross suggests.
Does anyone else see anything wrong with doing this now? I want other players to weigh in, as it seems to be catering to 2 players who have an issue with the format after 3 months of a 4 month event.
(not that I am considering it, I just want your opinions on it. I don't think it's right to change the format mid-stream considering it's what Dom was accusing me of).
I will say that if you weren't doing it the way you are now I wouldn't be playing in any of them as my schedule does not let me make every Sunday at the moment.
(and I may be wrong but I feel that I'm responsible for a few sales myself...)

Considering it hurts Dom the most I would check wth him first.
EDIT: I dont think I can qualify at this point anyway so it doesnt matter to me
Dustin why are u still talking i said i don't care!!! I mis understood the finals for your event!!! Iam not a fan of it and think it makes not sense. But u keep on talking and talking say showcase this and that. Getting anyway from the topic of AvX at your venue.
Talk to who u want(Chris), u say me and Ross and acting like children on this thread. Well guess what buddy, from what iam reading you sound like your the same age!!!! And then u send me a text "please don't post on kop thread, send me a pm if u have a grievance". Ill post where i want buddy, and u call me out by name cause u think u have big balls. Iam done posting, talk is cheap, if u have something to say say it to me in person!!!!
What do you not understand, it's actually really basic.
My analogy is if you put time money and effort into something. than you should be justly rewarded. if you put half the time half the effort half the money into something, why would you get the same reward?
The point is I come to every single event at strategists since the beginning of AVX. 90% of the points I've got for AVX are from winning events and participating in events it really has nothing to do with buying extra product it's just the principle at hand.
If you ran the events the way the wizkids suggested format says it would be no issues you're essentially trying to get every single nickel and dime out of everyone's pockets that's what it comes down to it doesn't take a genius to see that.
I'm sorry if you have a family event or if you work or just something comes up on Sunday but if you can't come and put in the time effort and money and you don't deserve to win the final prize
Dustin you just can't do things the way they're suggested to be done you have to have your stupid little twist to it and that's where all these problems came from.
You also told me to message you in private yet you're posting our private conversation in public. It honestly comes down to you being immature and hypocritical
I can only come once per month, so even though I qualified, I guess if someone is there every week they can have an advantage over me. That's fair.
I wanted to weigh in that I feel Dustin's heart has been in the right place and he tried to do the right thing.
I also can see how Ross & Dom thought they were working towards something but in the end it ends up being nothing, because we really dont have enough people showing up consistently at the venue to make Dustin's system work out fairly.
I think to even it all out, the amount of people in the finals should be a percentage of the total who qualify... that would help with the low turnout we're been having. So how about this: 1 bye per 4 people who qualify. Top half of the sealed event get to play in the final.
I think the one thing we can all agree on is that OP kits ruin relationships, venues, and fun. Maybe we should rethink the whole gaming group. Maybe we could just meet up for some constructed games with minimal prizes. In my estimation, we end up spending more money to win prizes than what the prizes are even worth!
I would be happy with my games like the Non-generic theme team golden age tournament we did a few months ago. I think venues need more friendly, simple, and fun games instead of the overly complicated constructed or sealed all the time.
Have to keep it fresh because the prizes aren't worth anything and we all live close enough to play whatever we want at home.

For Fear Itself, players stopped coming after Skyler and Steve ran away on points. You guys wanted a change where players who came out infrequently still had a shot to play in the finals.
So I changed it so you only need 15 points to qualify, and added a constructed portion to the finals so it truly is a match up of skill, and not 'whomever showed up the most'.
I added the bye reward (on top of the faction reward which is the Phoenixbuster Iron Man LE) for more incentive for the players who showed up regularly. Apparently I'm a horrible, unfair individual because despite my best efforts to keep everything fair and balanced, the two players who will likely be getting the Phoenixbuster LE anyway somehow feel slighted that because of turnout, my initial layout for those moving into the finals was not accurate.
So here's my idea. The only single elimination works is in multiples of 4. So if we change it, it would be 4 players in the single-elimination constructed finals. That means just 1 bye, and 3 advance from sealed. Dom gets screwed in this scenario.
Since you feel that your bye is 'worth less'- we can keep the format where both of you get byes from sealed and I can see if I can round up some additional prizes out of my pocket for the top 2 players on points (in addition to the faction LE).

But it's not nothing. Being top in their faction by making those additional purchases nets ateast one of them the phoenixbuster LE. Both if their faction wins. Plus, they don't have to buy boosters at that event. They both have value, just not the value of having more players eliminated, which is what they are requesting.

So 8 total qualifiers= 2 byes. Scott is about to qualify which will get us 9 qualified. If we have 7 players in sealed, how many advance? Is earning a zero point win for the bye fair for the sealed event? How do you work 6 people in a single elimination tournaments? 6 goes to 3, goes to ... ??

PLEASE leave feedback one way or the other. If no one objects- this is the format we will use.
Note- this game is set to begin around 11:30am pending approval from The Strat.

I can only say. That the 300modern should not be limited to 300 marvel only. We should treat it as a 300 modern gen-co. No take backs, this is for keeps. And because i get a bye now i don't get points toward the phoenix buster. Which may cost me that.
Iam getting penalized for being top points for the bye. What?????? So i think me and Ross should get points for the bye cause we are rewarded for getting that bye, not penalized.

So that's my 2 cents
why don't the rest of us just not show up and we'll cut the prize in half so you can split it...
