Other than seeing a baseball game, not much else to do in Cleveland at that time.
I used to visit Cleveland periodically because I had an Army nurse FWB who lived in the Ukranian enclave there. She took me to places that I would never have been to if left to my own devices. She was 100% Ukrainian and we went to places where they only spoke English if they wanted to include me for some reason. I can't recall the name of the part of town, I was only there a few times.
The Rock Hall of Fame was cool as was the lakefront in general, and the Cavs & Indians were super competitive at the time, but my favorite G-rated activity while there was the Cleveland Zoo. It was pretty awesome, and with Columbus and Toledo both having near world-class zoos so close by, I figured Cleveland's would be just hanging in there. It way exceeded expectations.
I liked the riverfront too! Would have been more exciting a couple decades earlier when it would catch on fire and whatnot, though.
The main ones that I was excited for was a Dockside Extortionist ($44 when I traded for it, now up to about $50) and Doubling Season ($70 when I traded for it, now up around $80), but I had such a massive haul cause I traded a lot of extra stuff that apparently shot up in price for a bunch of random stuff I wanted, but those two cards are things I just imagined I was never seriously going to own.
But to be fair, the reason I likely don't draw things that I want is that I change commander decks basically every week, so what I want varies wildly from week to week.
I understand. I have about 10 commander decks. Doubling season is great! I loved that card when it first came out and that original art is the best too. I didn't realize that Dockside Extortionist was a commander card. If there is one thing to buy when it comes out from MTG it's the commander decks. You never lose on those purchases.

Me: Who is Fela Kuti? What did they do?

Fela Kuti is just not as well known because his higher moments of fame were 50 years ago and dealt with Africa. Additionally he is known to create new genre of music, so that's a plus in my book. Unfortunately people here in the states don't care about most other places in the world. RATM much like Bob Dylan sang about stuff here in the US, so it is on more people's radar. If I could understand the lyrics from System of a Down I am sure I would put them up there near RATM. I have been enjoying listening to Fela Kuti's music a lot more than RATM at the moment.
When it would come time and only 1 band could get in who would it be between, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, or Slayer? Metallica, they are the most popular. I would side with Megadeth because there is/was more substance in Mustaine's lyrics.

Yeah, I keep getting burned on those commander decks, but I just never feel like buying whole decks that I know I likely won't use just to get a card or two from them.

I will say that I don't really know much about Fela Kuti, but this being a discussion for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (while that is subjective in itself), I feel like RATM has more of a claim to the genre.
Slayer would've been my pick when I first got on these forums cause I appreciated their speed, but they really went downhill. I think nowadays I would also have to pick Megadeth.

The funny thing is that the card or 2 that everyone wants costs as much as the whole deck, and sometimes more in your case once the set is out of print. Everything else is just bonus. Granted that sometimes those cards get reprinted but you never know. Chaos Warp was my white whale for a while because I missed that very first commander set (or was it planeschase) and it used to be so expensive.

The best part of Ohio is Cedar Point. Back in the pre-kids era, the day before Origins in Columbus, my gaming group would pile into my Xterra and drive all night to Sandusky for Cedar Point, we would ride rides from opening until about 3 and then drive back to Columbus on opening day
Depending on construction, the drive was 10 to 12 hours usually from Chattanooga. We were wiped out by the time we got there, but always had a blast. I met a bunch of the old LPC in my years attending.

Yeah, that's so true but I've had such bad luck on speculating that I never want to go down that road again (let's just say that when I got home from Afghanistan, I bought way too many Savage Knuckleblades and Mantis Riders because I was convinced they were going to blow up one day).

Wow, so original. Totally not copy/pasted from earlier.

Never understood the allure of buying up a card unless they were going to be used.

I thought I did. It seemed like easy money, and I was young and dumb. These days I don't even bother getting two copies of the same card unless it's from a pack or something.
