We had this issue come up recently. Nearly exactly the same, actually.
In a smaller group, every player matters to the venue and there's a lot more acceptance of bad behavior. As a group goes larger, it's the responsibility of the judge, owner, and other players to make it known that a player is bad for the group experience.
Well said. I consider myself a competitive player, but hope I'm seen as the latter.
I'm the guy who won't run Superman Revenge Squad (random example) because I don't think I can win with it.
I always play to win, but some of my best/most fun games wound up giving me a loss.

A person can be extremely competitive and still maintain civility and composure. It sounds like this person is not doing that.
There is nothing wrong with playing to win. You should always be playing to win. If you aren't they why are you there? This is making the best choices in the situations you are presented with to give yourself the best results. That might mean running a guy away so you can regenerate him instead of having him fight the 3 guys that knocked his dial down so low. You gotta do what you gotta do to beat your opponent. Anything less would be disrespectful to your opponent.
Being an ### is not playing to win. Talking unwanted trash to someone is not playing to win or being competitive. It is unsportsmanlike behavior and grounds to be kicked out of games.
