It is just one. If you look at the current wording, you will see that it says something like "a single Flock of Bats" in there.
Not arguing that it is one. Makes sense to me. But....Here is what it says in the new players guide (copy and pasted):
Allies In Darkness: The Caped Crusader may begin the game with a Flock of Bats attached to his base at no additional cost. While there is at least one Flock of Bats attached, The Caped Crusader can use Super Senses. You may give the attached Flock of Bats a move action to detach and move on the map. When The Caped Crusader has less than 3 Flock of Bats attached, a friendly Flock of Bats may end its move in the same square as him; if it does, attach that Flock of Bats to The Caped Crusader. If The Caped Crusader is KOd with a Flock of Bats attached, place any attached Flock of Bats in an adjacent square before removing him from the game.
This is why I had to ask the question because it still does not say single.
And the only reason I have ever been confused by this in the first place is that the name of the figure is 'A Flock Of Bats'. The 'a' in the power description doesn't necessarily mean one. It is just part of the name, really.

Since the "a" is lower case it indicates singular quantity. If it was part of the title it would've been capitalized.

Again, I understand that in this case it isn't part of the name. But part of Harpua's response to my question was that the text had been changed to say 'single' when, in fact, it had not. So all that initial ambiguity is still there.
Anyway.... I am going to play it as single. Wouldn't want to ruffle feathers were I play. Pretty good group there.
Ok guys, sorry to beat the dead horse a little more. But I have read through 80% of this thread and have yet to find a difinitive answer. (Maybe I just missed it?)
Can The Caped Crusader begin the game with more than one flock of bats attached if he pays the point value in your team build for the second and third?
If so, I know that only having one attached for free will let him keep theme team, but the second and third break theme I am assuming because you have to pay their point value.
I don't want to re-open the argument I just want a concise answer.
FLE's Stark Industries -Movie-
HCFL's Thunderbolts: Marvel's Most Wanted!
RPSC's M: Astonishing X-Men
DC: Deathstroke and the Secret Society of Superheroes
From this post I assume that you can attach a second and third by paying their point cost?
And Harpua, you sir are a master at answering questions, and leaving the answer open for interpretation. You must write the SPs! lol
When you say "you only get one free one." are you saying that you only get the one FoB and no more even if you pay. Or are you saying that you get the free one, and can then pay for a second and third????

You get one free Flock of Bats that can start attached. Any others beyond that you have to pay their point cost to have them on your force and those do not start the game attached.
