Okay, my nephew seems to be pretty taken with this whole Skylanders thing. He's four, so I don't know how much of the actual game he's playing. What would you all recommend as a gift that would make me a totally awesome uncle?

Does he have one of the games or does he just like the characters?

If he's not playing the game too,much, I'd say maybe get him Tree-Rex from the giants line/starter pack. He's a cool bull typed character who lights up when you put him on the portal. Both the character design and the light-up effect seems to be tailored for the male younger players. I think younger kids also like Hot Dog universally.
Reading this thread makes me somewhat glad I don't have a wife, although I have it on good musical authority that just one year of love is better than what I have.
Taking it a day at a time. Let's just say that it has gotten ugly really fast. Apparently she also filed a case with child protective services because, you know, I am such an ogre to my kids. However, I just called CPS and was told that if no one has contacted me to date (and no one has) then it means that the case was dropped due to lack of merit. They typically follow up in 5 business days, and this would have been filed last week before the Thanksgiving holiday. It's been 7 business day since last Monday, so there it is and there you have it. Fun times, lemme tell ya...
So you're divorcing, but co-habitating in the interim? That's something, if so.
Again, I hope it all works out. Best thing you can do is cop to your legit faults, refute the illegitimate accusations, and try to make things as peaceable as possible. It'll reflect better on you.

I would say "yes". My kids like the video game and then also like to play with the toys as if they were action figures. I also agree that the starter pack with Tree Rex is the way to go. You can find it for less money these days since the new expansion came out. Note that Skylanders Force is backwards compatible, but you will not be able to play Swap Force characters on the Giants platform.

Actually, my wife has decided to take the kids and move in with her mother. She is in full psychob_tch mode and since she couldn't evict me, refuses to be under the same roof. At least she has somewhere to go, which I did not. I am sure that the battle for custody is on the horizon. As far as I am concerned, the marriage officially ended when she lost her temper and started the sh_t storm that I have been through during the last 10 days or so.

This is also true for the original crew of Skylanders. The newer games play the older figures, but not vice versa. If it helps, there's a transparent dyed plate on the bottom of each figure's base. They're color coordinated based on expansion.
Original = Lime Green
Giants = Orange
Swap Force = Blue

Huh. Well, curiosity is about to kill this cat, so I'll just say I wish you the best! Hang in there!

Charles, no matter what she say, the way your relationship is with your kinds will be clear in the way they want to be with you. Im sure your relationship with your childrens is awesome and the true will show in your favor.
I had a blast with my Skylanders Giants when I had time to play it and, agreed, Warburton, as always, delivers.
My preferred Giants were more due to personal tastes than power: Swarm and Eye-Brawl (and I now have two of him as I bought his Hallowe'en exclusive about two months ago).
As for normal sized, probably more than I need (as I didn't go with "just get one of each element to cover the bases").
Lot of cool looking Swap Forces but not sure I want to buy a new core / new game (when I haven't finished Giants) and being the Swaps aren't compatible with my core, I guess I'll be waiting before playing Grim Creeper.

It's a platform game with 3D worlds that you go through. It's in the style of the first 2 Spyro games from the original playstation system. It's also an expansion of that universe and type of humor. There are a set of objectives for each level ranging from "complete the level" to "collect all of XXXX." It's really well done, IMO. My kids love it, and I could (and have) happily play it when they're not around.
