It's nearly afternoon, people. Make with the funny.
Maybe for you crazy East Coast folks, but here on the West side, we are still just waking up, and have nothing funny to offer besides our wake-up faces.
Got home from work, the dad was still out at the bar. So I went out to grab dinner to avoid dad's drunken attempt so make it. He gets home, comes in the house and closes the front door (we usually leave it open because there is a storm door there). I don't think anything about it and I tell him there's dinner in the microwave.
I get up to do something and I see a car sitting out front. Upon closer inspection, I see it is a cop car. I immediately go to my father and ask him why the police are coming to the door. "I don't know." he said unconvincingly. I asked again, "WHAT. DID. YOU. DO? I need to know before they come to the door. "I didn't do anything wrong!" he mumbled. "Just tell me, Dad!" He stuck to his story, "I didn't do anything wrong." "Well, these guys might have something to say about that." I tell him and then tell him, "Stay inside!"
The officer comes to the door and I open it and slip out front. How can I help you? He starts angrily explaining the situation. About half way through he could tell by the expression on my face that I wasn't the person he was looking for and started calming down. Apparently my dad was driving home and was not doing it very well. A person behind him got upset and drove around him and more than likely flipped my dad off or yelled something at him (not sure as the cop didn't have the other side of the story and my dad maintained he didn't do anything wrong ). Anyway my dad had apparently followed that person home and sat in front of their house for a bit in his truck. Then came home without incident.
So now that I knew what had happened I quickly constructed a story in my head (spider came down from the ceiling caused the erratic driving - then wanted to teach someone a road rage lesson) that should make this a simple, "don't do that anymore" situation for the cop who clearly didn't want to deal with this. But before I could tell my tale, out stumbles drunk dad. And then the cop understood what was going on. So a situation that was going to be a simple "I'm sorry, officer, tempers flared but no harm was actually done so can we move on from this?" Became a drunken fool telling the cop he's a liar because he's with Obama.
So Saturday was spent dumping out every bottle and can. I was so mad at him I wanted to punch him while he slept it off but instead I just stacked 3 beer cans on his head and walked out of the room.
Not sure how my mom kept this lunatic in check for as long as she did. I promised her on what would be her deathbed that I would come home and take care of him if anything happened to her. She told me I had no idea of what it would be like. Damned if she wasn't right again. So yeah. How's that for funny?
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.
