This is my favorite reference in the whole thread so far.
It also reminds me, my friend that used to play HeroClix back in the day recently started a job located in the massive underground facility in our area. He was telling me that on his first day, this real nice lady was conducting the orientation. She was seated at a desk at first, and then when she stood up to walk them around on the tour, my friend realized that she was actually closer to the ground when she was seated. And then it dawned on him that he was being given a tour of a mine by a dwarf. He told me he immediately concluded that it was the coolest job ever.
I keep debating whether the mines would be the best or worst place to be in the event of the zombie apocalypse.
My gut tells me that as one of the most secure facilities on the planet that it should be one of the best places to be.
That said, my head tells me that if just one infected person breaches, then it's just a giant, captive buffet.

Oh, and I've also considered the very real possibility that it could be ground zero of said apocalypse.
There are all sorts of music master recordings stored there, among other things.
A couple of years ago the wife and I went to dinner at the local brewery. As we were entering we noticed the gigantic SUV limo parked out front. I joked that Donnie Iris must be inside.
Nope. It was Ozzy. He was there with Jack to film an episode of whatever show they were doing. Jack arranged for his dad to go into the archives and listen to some of his old, unreleased recordings.
Okay, my special order garment has arrived, so I will be packaging up my LPC Secret Satan tonight. I would feel more guilty, except that I really don't.

I believe the answer to all of that is "yes."
It would make a great setting for a Living Dead film, actually.

Actually, now that I think about it, there WAS an underground research facility in one of the Living Dead movies, wasn't there?
EDIT: Yes, Day of the Dead is the one I was thinking of, and it was shot in the Wampum mine. Not the mines Harpua and I were referring to, but also within our general area.
