So I've been trying to psych myself up for the past couple of weeks to talk to a woman in my citizens academy class. Being thrown back into the game after 15 years has made me realize how rusty I am at this and its nerve-wracking. It's almost become more about actually talking to her than getting a phone number or a date....

You can't really go wrong with being noticeably a little awkward and just opening up with a self deprecatory "hi, I've been trying to find an excuse to get to know you better, but I couldn't come up with anything witty or charming". It works ok as long as you don't look like an axe murderer.


Screw your buddy night went much better this year! Last year only 1 guy seemed to comprehend the idea. This year there were probably 7 or 8 legitimately sucky teams, with a few others maybe average.

Back to doing my taxes. YAY!!!

Just walk up to her during class and say I noticed we're in the same Citizen's Academy Class...

I LOVE taxes! Is anybody out there a tax expert? I have a situation (and a form from Defense Finance and Accounting Service) that even the H&R Block phone helper could not help me with. It is frustrating to spend an hour on one particular problem, when it may not even result in any results of note.

If you're serious about this I know the most backside kickin' tax guy on the planet.

Would he be willing to answer a question over the phone or email without me being a client?

It is a very specific question, regarding gov't wage overpayment in a previous year, and how to capture that I made repayment of those wages in the 2012 tax year. PM me if you talk to the guy and he is willing to help/guide me on how to do it. I would owe you one!

April Fool mistake #1- don't tell wife "you know, you're right, we should get a new puppy", let her celebrate for a few seconds, and then add in "ha! April Fool's"! Just sayin.
