Personally, I cringe at the flood of "classic literature/monsters" mashups that have arrived in the wake of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which was, in fact, very cleverly written, with plenty of nods to Austen fans). It seems like there's a new one every week. I'm waiting for Ulysses and the Wolfman or something equally terrible (although, now that I'm thinking that through, the addition of shapeshifters might make that book a bit more finishable).
Ah, c'mon...I'm a rabid fan of the original, but the remake was a straight-up party!
Plus, Ving Rhames! VING F'N RHAMES!
No, not at all.
The original was a commentary on the French Revolution. It was fantastic, and a great thinking movie. You could walk away from it with awesome scenes, and still talk about some of the concepts it attempted to get across. An intellectual that understood the allegory, could talk to someone who didn't, and immediately enlighten them to certain truths about human nature. Dumb people would watch a stupid zombie movie, and come out of it with knowledge. It's like tricking your children into eating vegetables.
The remake was: "Hey, zombies can run and attack quickly and stuff! Isn't that ####ed up?"

Apples and oranges, man.
Sometimes you want filet mignon, but sometimes you want a big ol' greasy burger.
The "Dawn" remake was that greasy burger for me. With cheese. And a buttered bun.

I can't watch family guy. I can't watch shows like two and a half men either. I prefer my comedy to be more intelligent (favorite show ever is arrested development).

Can't really do sitcoms in general. Exceptions are "Lucky Louie" and now "Louie".
I do watch a whole lot of cartoons, though...

Hey, I like my greasy burger as well. I just would like to see it advertised with a different name than my wonderful filet mignon.
Well, at least it isn't like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (tied with NOTLD for my favorite movie of all time - hands down), in which they took a big, bloody cheeseburger, took all the flavor out of it, and tried to reconstitute it into a real pretty looking...uhhh...gourmet meatloaf, or something?

I'm with ya. I can stomach "True Blood" and "John Carpenter's Vampires". That's about it.
"Walking Dead" will be worth a shot, as Darabont has to TRY to make a bad film/show.
Also, "Zombieland" is tops.
I agree with every part of this.

Look, if I want to play a zombie game, I'll play L4D2, or I'll lobotomize myself properly enough to withstand the agony of using the Dead Rising control scheme, and go through 3 days of that. If I want to watch a zombie film, I'll watch Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, or Dawn of the Dead (The original, not the garbage one). If I want to play a zombie card game, I'll play Zombie Fluxx. If I want to play a zombie board game, I'll play Last Night on Earth.
If I play other stuff, I do not want zombies in them, just so that the game developers have an easy out for dehumanizing the people I'm going to kill. I don't need dehumanizing. People are taking potshots at me, and attempting to breach my skull. That's all the motivation I need, thank you.
Here's where we agree to disagree on things. L4D2 was garbage. Dead Rising was epic and replayable countless times (5 for me). CoD zombie mode is amazing. And all zombie movies (even low budget crap ones like my boss loves) have their place, but I'm partial towards the shambling ones over the running ones. I prefer the ever present inevitable threat over the jump out and grab you kind of quick scares.

Diary of the Dead? Please use the disc for balancing your washer.
Ok maybe we CAN agree on some things. Diary sucked bigtime. HUGE disappointment from an icon.

I now know better than to watch modern Romero. Dude forgot how to make a compelling flick.
Haven't seen "Survival of the Dead" yet, but I'll wait for it to be on FearNet for free.
Agreed!

Shaun of the Dead is still my favorite movie of all time.
This is easliy on my top ten favorite movies list.
As far as zombie material, I like the original Day of the Dead slightly better than the original Dawn of the Dead. I think that after Day, Romero became prey to his own legend and his directing/writing went all to hell in a zombie basket. I didn't even consider buying Diary of the Dead. In fact, I am glad that I did not.
I still enjoy the zombie genre, though, and am looking forward to the release of the World War Z movie. Max Brooks is easily the zombie master of our time, followed by Robert Kirkman. I hope that the Walking Dead TV show is not watered down because the source material has been consistently great.
(Another classic living dead movie is Plan 9 from Outer Space - which I enjoy watching in black & white and cracks me up every time because it's so bad.)

Oh, I'll also stand firmly behind "Land of the Dead" as being awesome. Sure, it has its critics, but most of them cling to the whole "zOMG t3h z0mb13s dunt l3rn!1!" thing.
To which I say, its called development. Deal with it.
