I've been asking for Shipless expansions since day one to allow multiples of ships to be run for those of us who bought multiples just to have neat ships.
I'm looking for another solo friendly table top game and was wondering which of the Star Wars games lends itself to solo play? Also, not knowing much about either game and how many figs are available, which is the least expensive option?
I like the new releases. Love or hate the Kelvin timeline, it made Star Trek more accessible to the public, and that's what Attack Wing needs. I'm just worried that it was too little too late, and the general public seem kind of "over" Star Trek again. Hopefully, and I know this is just as controversial, they strike while the iron is hot on Star Trek Discovery, and try to get some people there as well.
Attack Wing is really doing a lot of things to generally improve the game. Card Packs are a great idea. They are also recosting the new stuff, because base stats plus 2 was always cumbersome, and redesigning the cards with more consistent wording. Finally, A new rulebook that streamlines factions. If I had a venue nearby I would probably jump back in, but I am worried about the continuity problems between old and new stuff.
I would have loved it had the game been less min / max focused. Allowing cross faction captains and crew and such was a big part of what allowed local players to abuse the game here. Those players made for a VERY unhealthy gaming environment here causing our store to discontinue games. A couple of players (one main player really) caused several stores to stop running games. It's too bad. Might check some of this stuff out though for home games and see if it has improved since I stopped playing.
So far the only thing I've heard is that there will be conversation kits that will cost $50 per faction. Personally, I haven't played in months and haven't purchased the last 2 waves, so I think this is a good time for me to bow out. Waiting to hear more info.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.
they're cleaning up some game mechanics, getting rid of a few things they don't like (push the limit on almost everyone), generally lowering pilot skills to make non-8s and non-9s more viable.
I like the fact that FFG is dedicated to improving their player experience and admitting that v1 sometimes needs to be improved and that a v2 is needed.
The cost of the conversion kits is going to suck, but my son works for MM, so we're getting them for a bit more than cost, which helps.
Give it 6 months (after the 9/2018 effective date) and see if you want to play again. I hope you will.
The "reboot" that WK did for ST:AW shows they don't get it - they fixed a few things, but kept all the old jankiness as legal, so ... they don't get it.
Well, with Attack Wing, I think they'd lose whatever player base they have left if they didn't keep the old jankiness. I'm assuming X-Wing still has a relatively healthy market, while Attack Wing was sort of left in the wind. That said, the new rules do feel a little cleaner, and the new stuff has some pretty interesting things going for it (I find myself actually excited to try my hand at a Ferengi fleet) though maybe they haven't addressed all the concerns about the game, the new Initiative rules are solid, and the addition of the Rule of 3 was a good call.
As for keeping the old stuff, it's worth noting that the new stuff currently is far outshining in terms of playability. For example, they've been reducing the cost of almost all of their new ships, some by a very significant margin. For example, there's a new generic Klingon Bird of Prey that's only 13 points with the exact same punch as the old ones, and Secondary Weapons have a good place in the game now, such as the new Photon Torpedoes. I also just designed a fleet that allows me to fire at every ship in my forward firing arc with 5 or 6 dice, converting all blanks in to hits and converting all Battlestations on one of those attacks in to hits (meaning that I can choose one ship to automatically take a perfect roll), and almost the entire thing is from new stuff. So I wouldn't worry about the old jankiness, because true to form, Wizkids has "balanced" it by making the new jankiness much more devastating/cost effective. I don't know how that's really going to affect the health of the game long term, though I do think they're starting to get a bit of their market back while introducing a new set of rules, which is a difficult thing to do.
