Functionally for Char; not functionally for Haven.
Initially, I wanted to post a link. But then I thought someone might ask me to justify the existence of the entire thread. You know how it is with those "rules" you can't find in the rules.
If you all didn't already know, The Girl and I moved last Spring.
Before Thanksgiving, my mother sent an e-mail to me asking what our new ZIP code was. Groan.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Bad Santa
A Christmas Story
Elf (not a big Will Ferrell fan though, mostly for my kids)
There are other X-Mas movies I like and will watch.
I'm unsure of what this will do to everyone's already low opinions of me, but I have a serious attachment to:
It's A Wonderful Life
It was always on PBS when we got home from Christmas Eve dinner at my Grandparents'. My father was Riffing it long before MST existed. He did the same thing with nature shows on PBS. He'd crack me up. Seriously, though, the movie is totally Riffable. I can't believe Rifftrax hasn't done it.
All that being said, I love the damn thing. I cry like a freakin' baby every damn year.
Charlie Brown Christmas
This one also gets the waterworks going. I share Charlie Brown's misanthropic view on Christmas, but when Linus says, "Lights, Please" I go all gooey throughout his whole little speech. By the time he says, "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown" I'm basically a blubbery mess.
That's really it for me, though. I've never even seen all of Miracle On (Whateverthehellnumber) Street. I've seen mostly the whole thing in bits and parts. I just don't get it.
The same goes for Christmas Story. I'm not saying it's bad. It's got its moments. I just don't have the attachment to it that so many people do.
The Grinch works, but taking a book that I know from experience can take as little as five minutes to read and stretching it into a 20 minute long experience by padding it with music (Rankin Bass' answer to EVERYTHING; I'm surprised they weren't behind it.) is a bit much in my book. Don't get me started on Jim "Stick My Crotch In The Camera" Carrey.
I'm basically fond of all the Rankin Bass stuff, though. The Freeze Miser song in particular is a favorite of mine for obvious reasons.
I love It's a Wonderful Life and Charlie Brown Christmas as well.
I love Year Without a Santa Claus (which I watched last night). One thing I like about it is that the kid in it is competent and smart. Also the music.
I do love Christmas Story though. Haven and I differ there.
Haven, have you seen Elf? You might hate or love it. I doubt you will be neutral.

I don't DISlike Christmas Story, so I don't really think we differ. Unless you're one of those people who loves it so much that you bought the lamp. In which case, I just don't get that level of attachment to the thing.
I've never seen Elf owing to the fact that I dislike Will Ferrell almost as much as I dislike Jim Carrey. I think I'm already a "hate it" good call on your part.
