That's pretty much why I left the game. Just too much power leaping with figures and for a collectible game there's no value on anything over two years old. With very few exceptions.
I would feel better about Clix if they supported Golden Age or other alternate formats officially, but even then the tournament scene would just be, new figures but with feats added.
I stopped going to tournaments because of relics and things like the Infinity Gauntlet. The game turned into beefing up a single figure and it became unfun for me. A lot of us were also very tired of so many sets being released and it became very hard (and expensive) to keep up if you wanted to stay competitive. We had newcomers coming in who had all of the latest figures and would only run them with the Lanterns and entities (if we were doing constructed, I almost always used a theme or themed team).
We had a regular group of about 12 guys, plus or minus a few for years. Now my game store doesn’t even have a Heroclix group. I even remember after Wizkids dropped Clix right after Arkham Asylum there was just 3 or 4 of us who would still meet and we were ecstatic when it was revived. So, it’s kind of sad to see where it is at now.

Yeah, I don’t even know the rules for a lot of those things that happened in the last 4’ish years. When I read the unit sections to see thoughts on figures I’m opening, there’s almost no convo or it focuses heavily on equipping the figure with octopus arms, adding in multiple rings and having it possessed by an entity.
Being in a small town where I’m the only person buying Clix Is trickier and I decided not to support the relatively new LGS that I discovered had opened because their bricks (let alone a full case) were almost double what Amazon charged me; I bought once out of courtesy but that was about it...he already gets plenty out of me and even then I can be buying a few booster boxes of whatever’s the newest MtG set and he won’t even offer the promos (just the one card advertised as such) I see other stores giving as he says WotC gives him those promo packs to use as he will, which doesn’t seem to include keeping happy the person who spends the most and was the only regular income during his covid shutdown. (Yes, I’m sounding entitled but there have just been many incidents and I know I spend as much as his rent; I’m already triple dipping as a “loyalty to the local” when I buy comics there as I get enough sent to me for other reasons).
Anyway, point being, it means all the con exclusives and the like are just “sounds nice; maybe in a few years when people are liquidating them” and by that point I’m likely to not remember (I still have to get a Skull Ship and Brainiac is one of my favourite characters).
Funniest thing going through the unit sections - as your Arkham Asylum comment reminded me - was seeing people discussing JLU Wonder Woman’s cost (<100 pts I think?) and my remembering how the Arkham WW was considered a “bomb steal” at something like 268 pts.

Yeah, last I checked, clix are up to like $13 or $14 a booster by me. That’s insane. I do really like my game store and try to support them as much as I can, but I have opted for online retailers on a few items because my game store was charging outrageous prices on them.
Haha, yes, I remember that Wonder Woman. I also remember the Hitman figure being the first and at that time, ONLY figure to have Sharpshooter. We were thinking he would be the only character in the game to ever have that on the dial.
The Riddler, Miss Martian, and Zoom out of that set got plenty of play from me back in the day.
I stopped playing Heroclix when special powers were introduced. I stopped playing Magic the Gathering when I started heroclix, and the introduction of special powers felt like going backwards to me.

I started MtG with Alpha and even played PT circuit (Limited being my “sweet spot”) until circa Kaladesh. Now I’ve been “drawn back in” but so far I feel I’m “behind on cards” for any constructed so I just keep buying with a mental block in place (I just have this thing about going into a store and facing kids born years after the game started only to have them pop the new hotness on me...though the store did do a Vintage(?) Nite just so they could see the Power Nine and similar in person so I felt like if they did that I had to attend. Then credit went to the cards and not my ability when I won. )

I assume you will go for the cool uncle approach. Congratulations are in order.

got rid of some stuff but have way too much still which includes hobbit/lotr, halo, streetfighter, some star trek, lone ranger and bioshock. All incomplete sets.
i've gotten into keyforge, little build of mtg deck building and gone back to buying and reading comic books
To smurf out of hell or not to smurf out of hell that is the answer to any hellsmurf

"Cool" is not an adjective usually used to describe me, but I should at least be able to manage favorite uncle, since I have no competition for that title.
Got to try to get her hooked on board games early.
