Yeah I too am a little surprised that people would view donating something to our soldiers as a political issue. I'm not a Bush supporter at all but I can definitely differentiate between the people who make the decisions and the people who have no choice but to enforce them. Service men and women are right up there w/ fireman, police officers, etc as people who do straight up dangerous jobs b/c those jobs have to be done. No one makes them lay their lives on they line... they make that choice themselves and any action that supports them is ok by me. I have a friend serving in Afghanistan. He's not there b/c he loves Bush or anything. He's there b/c he wanted to be a Marine and that's where they sent him after boot camp. Does he not deserve support regardless of whether you're a Republican, Democrat or whatever else?
As an Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, most people should know my stance on Heroes for Heroes.
Nevertheless, I think this is a better decision. While soldiers may miss out, kids get a new opportunity. This is a move that should satisfy the masses.
interesting call. I liked the idea of heroes for heroes. supporting our troops is important, but im a long time donator to toys for tots so im a bit split on the issue, anyway to split your choice between the two? or would that be too difficult/too much paperwork?
So the move of which charity to donate was created to avoid a political stance has thus created a thread about political correctness AND politics.
Man the irony is thick here...
Bah, I'll just send my money to the troops instead of plastic figures. Remember, troops don't get much money either and some can't get flights home due to this. So sending them money gives them a chance to come home on leave to visit their families.
Well you [like me and many, many, many] others are gonna donate to Toys for Tots anyway. So why not let Pvt. Dobson, from Boise, Idaho, who isn't even old enough to drink beer or buy cigarettes, but yet is old enough to catch a bullet for his country, get some Hero Clix... let him perplex his Ultmate Hawkeye to do 5 damage, and then do a running shot in Nightwing who is hidding in the bushes?
You know this is sending mixed signals and that only gives aid to our enemies. Man, I really can't stand to listen to our president anymore.
Anyway, I really don't care who the stuff gets donated to as long as they enjoy it. So give to them over there, before we have to give to them over here.
I can't stand Bush. I voted against him once and will again.
I never wanted our soldiers invading Iraq just to please Dubya's rich oil buddies.
I work with a guy who returned in April from an 18 month stint in Iraq. I went to college with Pat Tillman. I didn't know him personally but saw him play many games and we spent the same four years at ASU.
That said, I think each and every soldier serving in any way related to this whole mess is to be honored and respected. They are being given the horrific job of cleaning up Bush's mess.
WizKids has come up with a win-win situation here. People that voiced concerns over what they felt was supporting the war effort are not being PC. (That sure gets thrown around when someone dares not like war!) They are exercising their freedom of speech. No one ever wanted to disrespect the soldiers. They just didn't want anything to do with the war.
Now everyone can rest assured that their donations will be truly appreciated either way. Brave soldiers or disadvantaged children? You can't lose.
WizKids has done a great thing here. Hopefully, we can stop bashing each other over where our donations are going long enough to realize that.

Have you been in the military? I have. After taxes I made about $700 dollars a month. Then after bills and car payments that does not leave alot of disposable income. After I left the military and started a new job I made more in 9 months then I did in 4 years of service. I am not upset about you wanting to give to the kids instead but no one should comment on what a service man or woman makes because you more then likely do not know. Miltary gets paid worse then teachers for the work they do.
At least with the soldiers getting the clix, they could later buy a starter set and play the game. underprivledged kids will probably never get to play the game, as they still need the rule book at the very least. That means they will have inaction figures with a clunky dial to play with. I guess it's better than nothing, though.

Well, you see that's the problem. WizKids is global, so can't go throwing around a pronoun like "our" and expect it to be all-inclusive. For folks like EmperorNorton (and many others), they're not "our" soldiers - they're "your" soldiers. While there aren't any premiere events scheduled overseas, there are plenty in Canada. And frankly, they've got their own troops in Afghanistan to worry about.
Personally, I think it's an excellent solution to a concern voiced by numerous members of the Heroclix community. Shows that WizKids does listen to its customers...
