General HC FAQs page 1, Rulebook corrections:
Replace the third sentence in the second paragraph under Ranged Combat, page 17, with: “If the range value is greater than 0 and your character is not adjacent to an opposing character, then your character may make a ranged combat attack.”
Yes, you may make ramged combat attacks if you are adjacent to friendly characters, just not opposing characters (unless you are a flyer...).
Anyway, nice article webbie. It is as I remember as well. Some people simply have a chip on thier shoulder (like that wasn't obvious...).
Another great article Webhead. There are many ways to stop Con Artists, they just don't really jibe with the many ways to stop some of these power figures. I don't have a problem with the game mechanic really.
wow very cool article! i especially loved the mini-history lesson. I didn't start playing HC until just when Critical Mass came out, and to get a glimpse of what came before is very interesting...

WKs has stated from day one that they will never "ban" figures.....just "retire" them....
There is a small difference, though some would tell you otherwise....
I have to say, I'm relatively new to clix (only been playing about a year), but I've not seen too much abuse by con artists. I've never faced anyone with more than two, but that could be because 'hooker-bombs' generally are geared towards teams built around one big fig, and teams like that get destroyed by swarms wherever I play. I see a lot more DEO Agents, Mystiques, and Taskmasters than I do Con Artists, simply because those pieces are capable attackers (or at least multi-functional in the case of DEO). The Con Artist is a waste of points and actions, even with a pulsewaver. I see more abuse from figs like V Doc Samson, who was capable of inflicting 7 damage with a heavy object back when that was something special for a character under 120 pts.
really enjoyed this article and looking forward to further ones!
I'm just glad the Rule of Three came in - we had some powergames at my old venue that would literally stack up Doom with a ton of hookers... er, Con Artists and his damage would just be ridiculous!
Great article Webhead. One thing I noticed and I'll throw out there...
When PWing the hookers, it's important to watch the hooker's formation around the PWer. Primarily, so a PC is available if the roll goes south. As rare as it can be...I've seen, more than once, some teams jacked because their "great hooker strategy" backfired and they critical hit the PW.
As for the Rule of 3...no...I don't think it fixed the Perplex problem as often quoted. The problem is that max life of a figure is still 11 clixs. Perplex can still allow a cheap figure with a Damage of 1 to do over 33% damage to an expensive ultra brick figure. Not "realistic" to the sourece material. Yes...strategy goes a long way, but some things seem too over the top regardless.

Actually didn't they start out saying that they would never "retire" figures. That has changed, why not this.
Actually, I don't think medics or con artists are as big of a problem now with the BFC. The mere though of them scares most people off from seeing them. That means when you do see them, that will be the exception.
The Rule of 3 did nothing to stop Con Artist abuse, except ton down the Sentinel Hooker-Bomb combo. However, the BFC have been the things that have reign these things in a bit.
