as long as turner isn't doing the interior art, i'll pick it up.
I believe Ed Benes is doing the interiors.
It is also my belief that the reason for the inclusion of these four female characters are because they are the four that Ed would most like to do 'incidental crotch shots' of throughout the comics.
If you don't know what I mean, read the first few issues and see how many times we get these women posed in such a manner as to allow Ed to draw their pubic area, or in such a way that we are looking at the rest of the panel from between their legs.
Seriously.

You know, now that I've sat here for a bit and thought about it, I like this line up. It has an old school feel to it while introducing new elements to the team in Roy and Jefferson.

In the time it takes you to read this, I'm hitting on your sister. If she doesn't take the bait, I've got your mom on hold.

with benes doing the art... you say that like it's a bad thing.

Actually, Benes is one of my favorite artists. And, not entirely for the previously mentioned observations about his 'style' ... though, don't ask me to name any other features of his style at the moment, because I can't come up with any.

No matter how hard I try I can't get the image of this team getting trounced on their first outing. I just don't think this line up is dynamic in any way, shape, or form.
Power dynamics; Honestly, who needs any of the other team members when you have Superman, Wonder Woman AND Green Lantern on the team. It seems as if everyone else is just there for fodder and to avoid the monotony of boring conversations such as; GL: "So Batman... I hear you got a new Batmobile." Batman: "Why yes... yes I did."
Character/Team dynamics; Seeing as how Batman has fixed his whole "I'm grouchy and mad at the world", Wonder Woman is all peaceful and less headstrong and Superman is able to patch things up faster than a speeding retcon, I don't see there being many memorable team interactions. The only interesting interaction I see happening is between Roy and Black Canary. Roy; "Wow, how did you stay with Ollie so long?" after some inane occurance.
All in all, in my personal opinion, I find it hard to see these characters for what they are. All I see are two God like males (Supes and GL), two former/current godesses (Wonder Woman and Hawkwoman?), three masters of close combat (Black Canary, Vixen, and Bats), two "average" males that can engage in witty banter ala Luke Cage and Spidey (Black Lightning and Red Arrow), and an android (Red Tornado).
This rant is the express opinion of Gabe Sapien and may be interpreted in any way; but is meant to be taken, and read, in the most respectible manner.

look at the lineup from the maggeddon arc.
superman, wonder woman, martian manhunter, flash, green lantern, orion, big barda, aquaman, zauriel, huntress, plastic man, steel and oracle.
way more power than this upcoming version of the league.
still had some good stories come out of it.
the fun of the jla is cramming all that power into one room and watching them interact.
not any different than sentry or thor on an avengers team... or any of the omega level mutants on an x-men book.
i'm more interested in team interaction than team power levels.
Well I try to give every comic a shot, but the lineup for me was incredibly underwhelming. I like the big three naturally (though I could do without one or two of them) and having Hal seems interesting (though I'll eat a shoe if everyone is cummy with him). Roy being there is kinda cool, and a slight nod to Black Lighting only because I don't know that much about them. But Hawkgirl, Black Canary, Red Tornado, and Vixen don't have me interested in the slightest bit. In fact, I'll go as far as saying I at least hate Hawkgirl and Vixen.
That being said, I'll still pick up the title on a trial basis. I have some faith in Meltzer so I'd like to see what he can do with it. I'm not a fan of Benes' art, but I'm sure he'll do a decent job.

Excellent point!
Can't say I'm thrilled about the additions of Vixen or Black Lightning, but having Hal & RT back on the league, and adding Roy will make for a great core to support the big 3.
1/6th of the Brothers Prob. '19-'20 Season: 15-13(8 events) 2 wins, 2nd XDPS PR 9-7, 7th SOC
Meh, I'll get the series. Not crazy about Black Lightning, rather see Cyborg than him. I can live with Vixen. Happy to see Reddy, less than thrilled to see Hawkgirl. Been collecting JLA since...forever, I am only 50 issues short of the original series have all the second, third, and the spin offs (Extreme, JLE/JLI, Task Force). Good thing is people if you're not happy with the lineup just wait until they change writers, then it'll change, if anything that is always the constant in JL titles.
if you read this then you lost 10 seconds you'll never get back.
The reason Black Lightning always turned it down was for his daughter, now that she is a hero herself, or was in the Outsiders, he is free from all his excuses.
Now I'm not a big JLA fan to begin with, but this line-up really leaves me un-thrilled.
The "big 3" have very little interest to me if they aren't surounded by members with personalities and powers on par with their own. GL helps of course, but no Manhunter, no Flash, and no Barda,Orion, etc. means that these three are basically baby sitters for lesser heroes (with limited pedigree) or just street level JLA-ers (Lightning, Roy, Canary)
I liked the Superman lead league around the time of the Doomsday arc b/c he was the clear leader and everyone else was less powerful, but dynamic. A tent pole team so to speak (Guy, Ice, Fire, Triathalon, Beetle, Maxima)
I liked the Batman lead league, the JLI/JLE, but I can't see liking this team that is so unbalanced.
(say this in evil bad guy with german accent)
Interesting........................
I don't really see a synergy between the characters but I've been surprised before so I'll be picking it up and reading it.
It will be interesting to see how Black Lightning, Speedy , and the others mesh..... Vixen has never left a good taste in my mouth........ she seems.... forced somehow.

So that's why I liked his art! (sorry, chauvinistic tendencies got the better of me)
Yes, but you're a surrealist! I'm a normal guy!
Gil Zoo Crew or bust!
Well, I WAS excited about my first chance, as a reborn comic book geek, to start collecting a JLA series from the beginning. Now I'm not so sure, for two reasons:
#1: I have a strange, irrational hate of Hal Jordan. I have no explanation why, I just do. Give me Kyle, or John, or even Guy. Preferably (a well-written) Kyle.
#2: This lineup, for some reason, makes me think "DC's New Avengers". Take away a couple of the centerpieces, add some "street" characters, try to make the book seem new and fresh without actually doing anything new or fresh.
Of course, I'll be picking it up anyway. I've gotta give it a chance to prove me wrong...plus it'll be nice to finally stop looking like a Marvel zombie...
