masks on a regular basis open up with weapons that can trash the best tanks in the world, they do it in crowded city streets and usually only avoid massive civilian casualties because of massive plot shields.
I have yet to see 1 argument on why its ok for masked vigilantes to go around blowing people and towns up with no legal authority and its somehow ok?
Which 'masks' go walking around with heavy firepower like that? Spider-Man slings webs. Captain America throws a shield. And a lot of superheroes (Hercules, The Thing, Luke Cage) just use their fists.
Oh wait, I remember now. Iron Man has repulsor rays in his gauntlets and some kind of energy beam in his chestplate. War Machine has a mini-gun and a missile launcher on his shoulders. And that clone of Thor had a copy of Mjolnir. But they were on the side that was ENFORCING the law and rounding up people who didn't want to register, so that's okay, right?

I think the most impressive thing about Civil War is the discussion it's created. The interpretations that we've all taken, views we had throughout, and the solid back and forth debate on the whole thing. Maybe that was the point all along...and we thought Mark Millar was trying to be political

Well, the thing about events is that they suck out all the conversation because it's a focal point that mostly everyone is exposed to. I mean, what else can you really talk about besides it and 52 and maybe the two "of America" books at DC and be able to get universal feedback because of the readership levels? S'why I don't get into too many comic book conversations myself anymore, because they all tend to run the same.
Me: "So what you think about Daredevil? (or X-Factor, or Captain America... just insert random consistently appreciated title).
Random person: "Yeah, that's still really good. Can't belive how consistent it is... " -- and that's about that.
Me: "Man, isn't FABLES just the greatest book?"
RP: "What's a Fables? Oh look, a Civil War tie-in"
Me: "Man, can you believe that Image is actually putting out some of the best books on the market these days? I mean, how do you go from Youngblood and Spawn to The Walking Dead, Fell, and Casanova?"
RP: "Image is still around? I still have a bunch of Spawn comics laying around. Wonder if they're worthy any money."
And that's how the system works. Big events always bring the hubbaballoo, that's why they have them in the first place, and why I think I find them tedious now... or, well, always...

This was exactly the way it needed to end, with Cap getting the abrupt realization that he's completely forgotten to think about the public. I was deeply moved by this issue.
I'm really not getting where people get this from. Really all he realized was that fighting like this wasn't going to matter. HE STILL THINKS THE LAW IS WRONG. After all thats why he's in jail. Otherwise i'm sure Tony and everyone else would make him the first person on their pardon list.

If the guy who kills 10 people, then gets in a firefight with the police is allowed to walk away if he gives up during the firefight? Cap's past crimes are not being forgotten and hes traded his surrender for everyone else's freedom.

Thats what you get when you do past the standard "heroes beat up the villians" story line, which is what CW did.
Theres only one Return, and it ain't of the King, its of the Jedi.

If your repetant and a GOVERNMENT PARDON. Well yeah. They have like 20 or so... and nothing would kill the Secret Avengers more then if Cap took the pardon and went after them. Heck even at the end of Civil War 7 they pretty much allude that Cap won't change with the "and then there's captain america... line" with him just sitting their... likely indefinitly.
Also. Nobody was killed.

Also, they specifically mention Cap is STILL Not happy with the law. It's not even a debate read the end of Civil War 7 again where there is Reed's letter.
"Ofcourse it'd be a lie to say that everyone is happy with our new agreement."(Registration) Then he talks about the people who went to Canada showing Omega Flight. Cap's "fanatics" in the Secret avengers...
and I'll quote here. "Not to mention Captain America Himself"

You're right about Cap's opinion not changing, that was the problem in the first place. He doesn't think the law is right, but him beating people down wasn't solving anything. Especially when the public has so openly rejected what he's trying to make a stand for. I think Cap is a smart enough guy to realize that all he could do was take off the mask and stop fighting because all that was doing was making things worse.
He's from a generation that's nearly died out, and he knows it. When it comes to how the country wants to govern itself, he can't really expect it to listen to Captain America's dated opinions. That being said, I don't think Steve is done fighting completely. When things start hitting the fan, I'm sure he'll be leading the charge to return a status quo. I do think it would be a pretty big cop-out if it once again turned into a "Cap is always right" resolution though. Though that would be better then turning Cap into a grumpy old man who shakes his fist at the younger generation for playing that noise they call music too loud.

I practically gurantee it will. I mean look at the response to Civil War. Kingpin is HAPPY Ironman won. I'm pretty sure most of the other villains who were twobit thugs were hoping Tony would win as well.
I can see it getting turned against them very easily, but of course that was the reason i was mainly against registration.
I could see Red Skull or someone else co-opting the shield training for brainwashing underneath Tony's nose... or just Brainwashing Tony. (worked for immortus.) Then suddenly the US gets taken over as the Superheroes are all woken up like sleeper agents... leaving only the Might Avengers, Secret Avengers and Captain America to fight off everybody else.
I'd lay money on it if it wern't for Planet Hulk coming so soon. All this so far just seems like it's going to end up as a cautionary tale via Ben Franklin with the whole those who trade freedom for saftey deserve neither.
Captain America's just learned that Democracy isn't the best government possible but that "Democracy is the worst form of government. Except for all the other ones in the world that have been tried.

you know better than that, being able to pick up a car and use it as a weapon is military grade firepower.
thing, herc, and all of the bricks regulary throw around cars and such in the middle of the street..
most superheros have no legal authority but weild far more power then any swat team.
there is no right to a person using this kind of fire power, no rights are being denied by requiring that masks have a badge.

that being said, i agree the law is badly put together, if it was put together well, we would have much less to argue about.

However forcing everyone to register whther or not they want to be a mask does.
Also, once again. WHY SHIELD?! They're run by the UN. Or atleast are supposed to. Don't know how the Prez, can suddenly promote Tony to head of Shield since it's under the direct control of the UN and not the US.
Then again maybe Millar didn't get the memo that that's how it's been for pretty much the entire 616 U.

here i agree with you shield makes no since if it is still a un orginazation, for that matter how could tony be made the head by the pres unless something has changed with shield i am not aware of.
I also agree that forcing those that do not want to be masks is wrong but that was not the intent of the law, I think And i could be wrong that came about by sloppy law writing "ie a loophole that could be abused" or my a more sinister approach from the law makers" that will be the focus on future stories.
Miller is quite intentionally making a good idea turn out badly, and that can make for good stories if handled less ham handidly then a lot of the civil war stuff.
it still does not make caps pre surrender acts right.
any more then prolife fanatics killing doctors because the feel the law is bad, animal rights activists killing humans for chimps or the peace fanatics were in the 60's that were bombing places.
cap america realised that his methods were wrong and surrendered... its completly ni charicter for cap

Maybe because the President of the US supported Tony he got appointed to be head of shield.
As for Civil War, I liked the ending I was on cap's side at first (or at least thought I would be) but I wound up on tony's side because of the methods Cap and his group were useing. I dont really see a problem with forceing people with so much power to register, but I dont think they are being forced to if they give up being "masks". But im not 100% sure on that.
At the very least Tony being head of shield seems like an interesting idea, I am going to start pick up Iron man and probably a few other titles because of all this.
