Can you use 3-d object in sealed events? AT every convention I've gone too they haven't allowed it but I don't see anything in the rules about it. You can bring 3 objects from a starter so why not 3-d objects?

Tournament rules from WizKids site
1.5 Required Materials
All players are responsible for bringing the following materials to sanctioned HeroClix events: a
tournament-legal HeroClix force with the appropriate build total; six object tokens; two six-sided dice; a
map; and tokens, coins, or other objects to use as action tokens. The current PAC and current Errata and
Clarifications document are recommended, but not required.
1.5.1 Objects
Unless otherwise specified by the scenario, all sanctioned HeroClix games must use six object tokens. 3-D
objects are legal for all sanctioned HeroClix games and may be substituted for object tokens of the
appropriate type per the 3-D object rules.
Thats what I thought but the rules arbitrator over on the wizkids site is trying to say 'you can only use what you pull', which makes no sense considering dice, action tokens, etc.

He meant for game pieces... not requirements for the game. Otherwise, every booster would have to be a starter set complete with dice, objects, map, tokens, figures........... you get the point
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????

Well show him the WizKids rules from the WizKids site:
I agree with you, but I SWEAR the guy is saying that you can't use 3-d objects (check yourself, there are some threads here in HCRealms about it too) and at WWLA they didn't allow outside objects during the sealed events.

Well, with that, it could be that he's making that call for the Convention's sealed event rules..... he IS the head judge at the event, after all (that's in the PDF rules, too )

I'm glad we all agree that his ruling is wrong (except for games where he is the judge and he can house-rule what he wants). It just upsets me that so many players will playing wrong. As an example I went to a sinister prerelease where they didn't allow OBJECTS that weren't pulled from the packs. I didn't find out until the start of the first round and my whole team had superstrength so I was screwed.

I have thought about this myself on many occasions and the fact is that WizKids has deliberately built into their system flexibility for the Judges discretion “IMO”. So it isn't that they are necessarily wrong it is how they had setup the scenario. But, it is prudent that they are quite CLEAR, on the rules before the event and any exceptions should be posted before the event for fairness.
I do agree that the above is seldom the case and that the Judges should try their best to keep the players informed of any changes in the standard event rules.
They made a good point over on the Wizkids site with these two rules quotes:

Of course that doesn't exclude special objects that aren't 3-d, but they're getting close to winning me over with this post.

Actually, that would..... non-3D objects are only available by pulling them out of boosters, and that has already been specified in one of the AP docs that only SOs that are pulled from the sealed boosters can be used.
So you could not use the Laser Turret in any sealed game unless it was pulled from one of the boosters you pull from in that game.

What I meant was that that rules quote only bans 3-d objects not all special objects. Can you find the document that says you can't use special objects in sealed? Thats what I've been looking for but people just keep spouting things without the rule quote. Thanks! I'm this close to admitting defeat!

Honestly, I can't tell you where right this moment.... WK site is blocked here at work and I don't have the PDFs with me. If nobody can back me up before I get home, I'll look it up. I think it's in the same area where it covers sealed... but I know one of those hasn't been updated since before Special Objects were made.

I found a 4 month old post on the wizkids website where the new RA says that the rules have just changed and from now on you can't bring special objects to sealed events but I'm reluctant to call it official until its in the rules, errata or at least FAQ. Regardless of whether its official or not, it does seem to be the rule they intend, so since I'm tired of HSS + dumpster anyway I'll rule no special objects for the next 5 weeks.

Special objects have never been allowed to be brought from outside the game; you pull them out of the booster the same as a feat or BFC... and you can't bring in outside Feats and BFCs, either.
3-D objects were always a whole other ball of wax, even after their designation was also changed to 'special' in Danger Room, since they were not pulled from booster. And per the Official Tournament Rules (already quoted above):
1.5.1 Objects
Unless otherwise specified by the scenario, all sanctioned HeroClix games must use six object tokens. 3-D objects are legal for all sanctioned HeroClix games and may be substituted for object tokens of the appropriate type per the 3-D object rules.
If Norm is trying to change this, fine. He just needs to make sure the Official Tournament Rules get changed, too.
