Hey! Hulk is a Giant figure, and can't be carried!
just kidding...great reviews as always. Super Rares seem to have the best average score this time around...I think if I pulled Ares I'd give him a go unless I had really good figs otherwise.
It'll be interesting to see the stats on the Heralds. I wonder if any will be able to go toe-to-toe with Ares...
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series this week, and just want to thank AZS for doing it. I just recently joined HCRealms even though I have been playing since October and have judged since May, and I can honestly say its helped me step my game up.
If I'm blessed enough to pick an ARES at the COG I will play him solo, just becuase I like having small teams. Heres to hoping I get two bystander tokens as well for tie up pieces !
On target in nearly every case, especially in the cases of Winter Soldier and Two Gun Kid! I pulled a Winter Soldier out of my brick and hope to pull another during COG. I haven't gotten Two-Gun yet. In a sealed game, I'd give Ares 3 smilies due to his expense despite my love of the figure. He's one of my faves. He could get out actioned and taken down by a larger team and is particularly vulnerable without Fortitude. There may not be many outwitters in the set but one is enough to cause an Ares without Fortitude a bunch of agita.
My feel about Ares is that he would probably win in a sealed Avengers game. A combo that might work to beat him is a Hulk to tie him up and unleash havok while a few range guys pick him apart. I feel that would work well to defeat Ares.
The one thing that people are forgetting is the Heralds. They might be able to beat Ares too. If their dials are worth the points, I think that, say, the Surfer and some backup would be able to beat Ares.
Very true. Then again, it may also come down to a first shot situation. Ares can unleash some serious brutality and case enough of a problem to a herald to even out the game.
I imagine this error keeps occuring, because no one bothers looking at or playing with the super-rare Quicksilver, but the dial used here (the one that keeps floating around the 'realms) is NOT his dial, AT ALL. He has a movement power on every click (2 'special' hypersonic, 2 flurry, 2 charge) and a defensive power on every click (2 super senses, 2 combat reflexes, 2 super senses). Not that this should change his rating, it's just as an owner of SR Quicksilver I feel as though he should get full credit for his potential, poor guy won't come out of the tackle box with everyone laughing at his half respresented dial.
edit-Ok, looking back it only has 3 powers missing, but still, his dial is slightly better than what shows up.
You know, the more I look at the current Ares, and go back and look at SN Thor, I wonder... if the Marvel U ran on HeroClix mechanics, how the heck did Thor ever beat this guy?!

On some level, I hope not. The fact that everyone playing will be able to field an "UBER-KEWL-I-CAN-BEAT-UP-ARES" Herald will probably lead to some very boring, and very quick games, that come down to two things:
1.) Who gets the first hit in
or
2.) Who doesn't roll a critical miss.
*Yawn*

Well...I was thinking the more along the lines of Supernova, where a friend of mine, who shall remain anonymous(e), KO'ed Thanos with Karnak at the Marquee.
I can see a solid move+attack piece or a piece with exploit weakness/psychic blast having an easier time with Ares than most other Avengers characters but not necessarily having too easy a time with all the Avengers characters.
