Personally, I'm holding out for the Secret Six ongoing series. I'm really hoping DC decides it's best to let this one stay as it is and not start playing musical chairs with the creative team.
As for Final Crisis, the third issue is the one I decided to drop. I don't really think it's a bad series so much as it's one I'm just not enjoying for a variety of reasons. As for the whole "too much dialgoue" complaint, I'd suggest people check out comics that are about more than action to see how panels and dialogue can interact in other ways. You may be surprised by how enjoyable some of them are.
I tried about six times to draft a response to this thread that was not condescending, belitting or elitist.
But, as it turns out, there's no other rational response to a sentiment of "these comics make me think too much."
Feel free to construct your own snarky response in the space below.

Marvel is lost as lost can be, Secret Invasion is a non-event, Spideys a wash, X-men reinvent themselves every two years, and the Initiative is garbage. Ultimate universe is in a downward spiral. The new Thor is ok thus far, the Hulk is unspeakably stupid right now, Iron Man is decent, Captain America is excellent, and they have no sense of "Marvel Universe". Annihilation was alright, Daredevil is probably still excellent. But they have no cohesion, no master plan. They just stumble from event to event. DC at least seems like its leading somewhere.
Agreed. I only buy it in the Trade format, but it has been excellent.

If this is the only book you get, either your standards are:
Extremely low to the point of not liking a good story . OR
You only like to buy 2 comics a year. If you liked Ultimates at least you would get 3 a year.
Someone mentioned Hawkman, and I agree. The Hawkman book started very strong and while good with Hawkwoman solo it is a bit weaker. It should be rebranded as a both book.
Dude Justice league is awesome!!!!!!!
is something I would have said a couple of months ago if they were not re doing Brad Metlzer intro storyline!!!!!!!
well, with an attitude like that its no doubt you're a Morrison fan.
many of us can tell the difference between intelligent writing and lousy writing. those of us that cannot....are Grant Morrison Fans.....
Well, make up your mind -- is Morrison's writing too cerebral, or is it not intelligent enough for you?
And to perceive any kind of "attitude" in the opinion that reading should engage the mind... that's just championing ignorance. Yes, I know they're funny books, but that doesn't mean they can't be literature.

When our story opens, the Question is investigating an impossible locked-room murder mystery involving a midget and a 6'6"-tall call girl into heavy bondage. Don't worry, I'll explain later. It's all vitally relevant.

Just kidding. When it comes to Final Crisis, if you're not a fan of Morrison, you should have more than likely not even bothered with this, as it had been hyped for quite some time, with the creative team of Morriso and JG Jones attatched as a selling point. I'm not going to make any comments defending Secret Invasion here, as this is not the thread for that. I'm of two minds on Final Crisis myself. On the one hand, many of the story points have been interesting, but then you get real idiotic ones like the time travelling bullet. Also, I think DC(not just Morrison, as this is being followed up on afterwards by Johns) should have left Barry Allen dead. Nothing against the character, but it's a real slap in the face to Wolfman and Perez, who gave Bary one of the most heroic and honorable deaths in comics history. As for DC comics sucking, maybe just because you like to see a lot of action in every issue of every comic series doesn't mean everyone does. I personally see no problem with characters simply interacting, but that's me. Of course, sometimes, I just want to watch a fight from cover to cover. Again, that's me.

I'm fairly certain that Barry will return to being dead by the end of the story. At least I hope so.

absolutely agree, and there are many skilled writers who can accomplish that, too bad Grant aint one of them...
as you obviously couldnt understand what i had written before, i will make it clearer and simpler for you:
Grant's writing is neither cerebral nor intelligent, rather its just plain lousy
"I KNOW it is not a comic book simulation (why it isn't is beyond me) but imagine a comic where Reed says "Johnny, nova blast those two hookers, we may need their help!"We always lose the games we love the most
Did they say it was about Barry? It may be Bart being reborn in the future.
they said it was about barry
the hal jordan rebirth was great and ill bet barry rebirth will be done well also, but it seems to really cheapen things, whats next? bringing back captain mar-vell?
It seems that there are some people who just aren't happy without a big fight and lots of splash pages in every issue of every series.
Well, I'm glad to know I'm not one of those people.
I don't mind the characters talking. I mind it when it becomes horrible, no-sense babble. Hell, it's a comic book...not a technical manual for the Mars Rover.
And I certainly don't consider myself lacking when it comes to understanding "above level reading"....I mean, I do have a doctorate degree afterall.
I'm just disappointed in DC I guess. They have some great ideas with the storylines but have the wrong people in charge of getting those ideas across to some of us.
