Okay, I can understand if it's a prize shark, or if the guy gets consistently good rolls, but the fellow in question is a nice enough guy, and he attends said venue regularly. Granted, I think he should be willing to roll dice the normal way if others ask...But is it really such a big concession to let him roll them how he wants to? Is it worth losing a player over? Is he taking all the prizes, or is he just playing a game of little plastic superheroes?
Hilariously we have a guy who brings 3 inch by 3inch by 3 inch dice(at least). He is a great guy and an amazingly talented player, but hangovers on Saturday are silly with GIANT dice smashing tables
When it comes to dice, players have to be willing to make concessions for the sake of the playing environment.
If they're not doing anything hokey, well, should it really be an issue?

Very true. But maybe it's less of an issue and more of a pet peeve. (Which is still fair game on this site). Look at it from this angle: I think both enthusiasm and melancholy are contagious.
If I saw some kid slouching in his chair, just dumping his dice and pointing in the general direction of who he's attacking instead of clearly stating his target... it just looks like he's not having any fun and doesn't really want to be there.
It's a BATTLE. With lasers and super-strength and web-shooters. Show some enthusiasm, for Crom's sake! Rattle your dice, howl over hits and mourn over misses!
Nobody ever gonna complain that you're having too much fun and telling too many jokes. I smile when I win, and I congratulate the winner when I lose. And I always shake my dice and fling them on the table, like I'm gonna win $50 if I get a 12. When I was in the championship round for the Starro tournament, that was actually true one time!
/I got a 4. Didn't win.
//Had to buy Jarimy's Starro.
///Haven't used it yet.

I agree, the game is much more fun when the people who are playing roll their dice with enthusiasm and react to the dice rolls, rather than sit there and let them slip out of their hands. Even if they superstitiously believe that rolling a certain way is better, they should roll the way you do when you play a game for fun, not go overly competitive and roll only to win.
I hate to burst a bubble, But were you guys actually usin DATA as an example. Um you know it's a tv show right. And dices rolls are dice rolls. as long as you're not setting them down, it's a roll. Now as for keeping them on the board. if they go off it should be a crit miss. at a venue I go to, one person that comes always rolls so one or both fall off the table almost every time. now come on. it;s not that hard to land em on a 3 by 3 board.

Ummm yeah we know it was a TV show, but we were using it as an example of absurdity, or at least I was (and you know....also for fun)......it might be a good idea to relax if you need to point out reality on a board about plastic superheroes.
I disagree with you about a critical miss on dice that fall off the table.
First the game is supposed to be FUN, that seems kind of the opposite direction of fun if there was a rule like that.
Second, I have seen dice hit figures on the board and spin out of control and fall on the floor....how is that the players fault? Dice rolls are RANDOM and the path of your dice can alter.
Not to mention we like to use the 2 foot by three foot maps at our venue sooooo you know its different than a 3 by 3 foot map.
I'm going to hit him really, really hard with a big green boxing glove............ I'm kidding. - Hal Jordan
Here's the Britannica Online entry on loaded dice:
Perfect dice are also known as fair dice, levels, or squares, whereas dice that have been tampered with, or expressly made for cheating, are known as crooked or gaffed dice. Such dice have been found in the tombs of ancient Egypt and the Orient, in prehistoric graves of North and South America, and in Viking graves. There are many forms of crooked dice. Any die that is not a perfect cube will not act according to correct mathematical odds and is called a shape, a brick, or a flat. For example, a cube that has been shaved down on one or more sides so that it is slightly brick-shaped will tend to settle down most often on its larger surfaces, whereas a cube with bevels, on which one or more sides have been trimmed so that they are slightly convex, will tend to roll off of its convex sides. Shapes are the most common of all crooked dice. Loaded dice (called tappers, missouts, passers, floppers, cappers, or spot loaders, depending on how and where extra weight has been applied) may prove to be perfect cubes when measured with calipers, but extra weight just below the surface on some sides will make the opposite sides come up more often than they should. The above forms of dice are classed as percentage dice: they will not always fall with the intended side up but will do so often enough in the long run for the cheaters to win the majority of their bets.
A die with one or more faces each duplicated on its opposite side and certain numbers omitted will produce some numbers in disproportionate frequency and never produce certain others; for example, two dice marked respectively with duplicates of 3-4-5 and 1-5-6 can never produce combinations totaling 2, 3, 7, or 12, which are the only combinations with which one can lose in the game of craps. Such dice, called busters or tops and bottoms, are used as a rule only by accomplished dice cheats, who introduce them into the game by sleight of hand (“switching”). Since it is impossible to see more than three sides of a cube at any one time, tops and bottoms are unlikely to be detected by the inexperienced gambler.
Yet another form of cheating with dice produces controlled shots, in which one or more fair dice are spun, rolled, or thrown so that a certain side or sides will come up, or not come up, depending on the desired effect. Known by such colourful names as the whip shot, the blanket roll, the slide shot, the twist shot, and the Greek shot, this form of cheating requires considerable manual dexterity and practice. Fear of such ability led casinos to install tables with slanted end walls and to insist that dice be thrown so as to rebound from them.
I know the guy who rolled the dice like that, actually, and he was very frustrated about it...I think that the judge may have overstepped his bounds a little, unless the player was consistently rolling boxcars or just what he needed to hit.
As far as the player himself, I know him well enough to know that he's not fudging the dice- that's a skill that takes practice, and I don't think he has the time or the inclination to do so.
I think youre mistaken on that one. For one, I was the player who for the 3rd time playing finally asked the judge to address it. For some reason people raised an eyebrow but will complain after the fact. Im a little more outspoken than most
Bottom line if a player(s) dont like how your rolling and your observed by the judge on Sunday and again by a different judge last night and both say "Dont roll like that" youve got a problem.
Do I think hes a nice guy...yes I do. That besides the point...hes a bit of a dirty roller and Im sure he doesnt like to lose like everyone else and is trying to stack the odds in his favor by rolling questionably. Add to the fact Ive been playing this game alone in particular for 6 years now and Ive been a judge since Infinity Challenge Ive seen my fair share of manipulated rolling. Everybody gets on fire and frozen dice when it comes to rolling in this game but what he does isnt cool.
Ive played him 3 or 4 times and observed his other games and his consistently sick rolls of 9 and above which requires at least a 5 each time is aggravating when he toggles the dice as if he were going to roll then stops...
#1 Sets his hand about 4 inches off the table
#2 Arranges his dice to show 6s or 5s with his thumb
#3 Uses heavy square tipped dice
#4 Flops them over with little action producing 9 or better
To me, this method shows he is mindful and conscious of what hes doing and by even trying to manipulate the roll he removes a portion of the randomness and in doing so is cheating....period.
Bottom line, he started rolling like normal to start the game beacuse I asked him from the get go...started losing and went back to his old ways...that told me that he finds it advantageous to roll his way. He said that its random when it hits the table so it doesnt matter in a bit of a snarky way.....okey dokey have it your way.
To be a smart arse I started setting up my dice like he was and flopping over with weak action and I decimated him. I missed one super sense out of the 5 figures that had it that I had fielded. My 2 Moloid was popping off 10s, 11s, and 12s and hitting his 17 and 18 defenses...he didnt like it and his annoyance was obvious.
I want him to stick around and enjoy the game but Id take losing a player over changing the integrity of our game and pissing off the entire venue any day.
i don't like those dice with a symbol on the 6 spot, those dice seem to be fishy to me...have a person at my venues that use those, and for some odd reason whenever he says i need such and such number to hit so and so, he rolls and gets said number....which makes it even more fishier...
At our old venue this one guy would always roll his dice very fishy. He would "Skyroll" of course, meaning he dropped them from a certain height rather than rolling them. Also when they left his hand he would meanuver his pinky to touch the dice at the last minute; flipping them in mid-air with his pinky.
This would cause them to roll while still in the air and just as they touched ground, the guy would place his fingers like this \m/ upon the table ( The way Spider-Man shoots a web blast), trying to channel some energy or whatever he was doing. Surpringly, he always rolled high.
I refuse to play this game with cheaters. If I suspect the person I am gaming with is using a questionable technique for his dice rolls I smash him in the face with my chair and take all his Clix out to the parking lot where I immerse them in lighter fluid and drop a lit match on the mess. As they come screaming out of the hobby shop, bloody and still slightly in shock, they too get doused with lighter fluid and I calmly ask them to reconsider their gaming choices. They usually crumple to the ground, wailing away about how much their currently unusable collection was worth. I point out that in the real Las Vegas, they'd be called "Stumpy" by now.
No, really, I just stop playing the game, collect my pieces and leave before enacting the above scenario. Life's too short for violence - but fiction isn't. Right Q?
