You gotta remember: comic books are clearly responsible for all juvenile delinquency and childhood sex... that's why they're published. Where's Frederic Wertham when you need him.
And speaking as a Librarian: parent challenges are just annoying.
This is What I Want(ed, circa GSX/2010): Nextwave ATA: 100 pts. may use all Team Abilities as long as force is only Nextwave keyword.
Unfortunately, I see stuff like this all the time here in Nebraska.
It shouldn't be news, and it shouldn't be an issue.
If Mary Jane in a bikini catches a kids eye enough to get him into reading, art, and creativity in general, then it should have proved its place already (even if this particular kid gets turned away by his mother). I know comics and cartoons helped get me interested in art and reading at an early age.
So many parents focus on hiding things from their children instead of just explaining them to their kids, and teaching them values pertinent to the issue. To me it seems that more damage is done that way.
I voted that the library should get to keep the comic, though it's strange to think of how kids and parents will react to its presence after all of these shenanigans.
"Mister librarian, do you have the naughty comic of mary jane? what there's a waiting list 2 months long?!"
i imagine the comics will be pulled just for making news and to appease the moral minority. One angry mom can cause more trouble than 50 moms that are pleasantly content with the comics.
I love comics because most of pages contain "sex".
All those well-built girls and boys in spandex showing all.Mmmmmm...
I remember Jean Grey in Muir Island or Storm often naked with her hair hiding only the "sensible" parts had an effect on me when I was 6 years old.Mmmmmm...
Well,it turned me into a perv and now I need to sculpt boobs every week but other than that,I'm almost normal.
There are worse things accessible to children in a library. When my wife managed a local library branch near our home, she would tell me about all the manga that she thought was a bit too racy for some of the kids who frequented the place. She even kicked out a patron who somehow was watching hentai on one of the public computers at the library after several folks complained.
Heck if you really want to screw the kid up, send him some pictures of women drawn by liefeld.
I was so confused when i actually saw a naked woman in real life. It was like "hey, why can't i fit both of my hands around your waist? and why are your hogans doing that? they're supposed to spring up in the air, not flop down. i should be able to rest my drink on them. why does my drink keep falling off? and what's your butt doing all the way down there? its supposed to be like, in the middle of your back right?!"
accursed liefeld... he made those five minutes in the back seat of that ford taurus so awkward...

I'm just waiting for another mother to become upset after finding out this mother lets their 6-year-old read these kind of comic books.
Seriously, most comics these days are inappropriate for children under ten years old. Shouldn't it be the parent's job to check which comics their children are reading? Unless the library is giving library cards to children, it's usually the parent's card that is used to check out the books from the library, and so should the responsibility be on the parent as well. Not everything in a library is age-appropriate to a 6-year-old, that's common sense.
The mom is kinda hot though.

The mother was checking what he read. The problem wasn't the existence of the book, it was where it was found, in the elementary school library. I have no problem with her having issues and I think she is right. That particular book with the images it has is inappropriate for elementary school.

I got kicked out of the library by the co-head of the town's library. All because I used the computer there to look up some artwork that also had nudes. I can't remember who the artist was, but the website was one of the NY art museums. The Metropolitan Museum Of Art, I think. It was a few years ago.
And I live in CT.
Now there's a librarian who should be working in Millard, Nebraska.
